View on Google MapsThis was a great way to become acquainted with the with the wines of the Valencia region. Paulius is an amazing guide. He's studied the history and flavors of the area and offers a wealth of knowledge. We experienced the history of wine in Utiel Requena from ancient caves and clay amphoras to modern wine making at a family-owned vineyard. A highlight was the chance to experience the new to us Bobal grape and the delicious wine it produces. We also had the opportunity to enjoy lunch (and wine) at an authentic local restaurant.
Paulius was amazing. 2 couples from Brazil and 1 from the U.S. and he kept us all entertained, included in all discussions and he was able to jump from English to Spanish back and forth without hesitation. He helped us discover the Bobol grapes of the region and why they deserve a place on the world stage. Walking through the caves in the moorish village of Requena, we had a wonderful experience of learning how the medieval people lived and drinking some very nice wines. Onward to the vineyard, Vera de Estanas, bought by a family in the 1980’s, who have spent their lives grooming the vineyards and presenting the best of the Bobol grapes. Lunch was a masterful presentation of exquisite wines with Paulius astounding me with his knowledge and training…. He has the superhuman powers of distinguishing wines by being able to detect vintage grapes & quality through nothing more than aroma and taste…. Amazing.
A fantastic tour given by Paulius. We were given an expert tour of the traditional and modern wine making process. Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging throughout. The wines are fantastic with some I've never tried before. All finished off with a fantastic lunch overlooking the beautiful vine covered valley leading up to Utiel. I'd highly recommend taking this tour.
Excellent full day tour of wineries just outside of Valencia. Our guide Valeria was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the wines of Spain. She provided us with a lot more information and detail about the wines and their distinctive differences than most guides usually do. She was both friendly and professional. We enjoyed the tours and the excellent lunch, however having Valeria as our guide definitely kicked it up to a 5 Star experience. It was well worth the $$$.
One of the best tours we’ve taken EVER!! Paulius and his wife are both trained sommeliers with a unique knowledge of the region. Turns out it was just my friend and I with Paulius for the entire day. Paulius took us to Requena first where he walked us through some of the history. Afterwards he led us through the wine tasting comprised of a cava, and white and red wines paired with chocolate. The second winery was at Utiel where he showed us around the grounds before leading us through the wines. He was able to select wines he thought we’d like based on our preferences and we enjoyed asking him questions about wine. We capped the day off at a restaurant that we would never have known to go to unless Paulius showed it to us. Overall I would give Paulius and this experience more than 5 stars if I could!!!
We had a wonderful day with Paulius. We enjoyed 2 winery stops with a few tastings at each, and we really enjoyed our lunch at a small village restaurant that was truly a special experience. Paulius was very knowledgeable, and we enjoyed that he joined us in tasting and ate lunch with us as well. We enjoyed this beautiful day and learned a lot about this unique wine region.
We had an excellent tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide- Paulius. He answered every question we had and all three of us felt that we learned so very much from the trip. The old town of Util-Réquena was really nice and steeped in history. The tour of the Bodega was well presented and we enjoyed going underneath the streets to see where the wine was previously stored. The wine tasting was very good and in a beautiful location. We would all thoroughly recommend this fantastic experience.
We had a really unexpected start to this trip, when we were waiting with our guide Paulius for coffee at a cafe near the first winery stop…my husband’s chair collapsed under him when he tried to move out of the sun, and he cut the back of his head on the corner of the table! It was bleeding & looked like a few stitches were needed. Paulius was great—so helpful!! He immediately drove us to the nearby hospital ER, helping us translate. He said that, in his 10+ years of doing the wine tours, this was a first for him, but he handled everything like a pro. Thankfully, it wasn’t a serious cut, although my husband did get 4 staples…unexpected souvenir! We’d missed the first tour but he felt well enough to stop and see the caves there, which were fascinating! And he felt OK to do the 2nd half of the daylong tour. Paulius was great, always checking in to see how he was doing, and even though the day didn’t start like we planned, what we did get to experience of the tour was wonderful! And Paulius truly knows his stuff! (Gracias de nuevo por todo!!)
We went on a full day wine tasting tour from Valencia. Our guide, Paulius was amazing. We learned a lot about the wines in the region and Spanish wines in general. Highly recommend!!!!
Paulius is a wonderful guide. He is a driver, tour guide and sommelier all in one and has a great deal of specialist knowledge, both about the history and the region, as well as about every single wine we were allowed to drink. We were a mini group of 4 people, which was fantastic and very personal. It was a lot of fun and very entertaining and funny. The two wineries we visited were very different and an excellent choice. We were able to visit an underground cave system in Requena and had a wine tasting in Utiel under shady trees with a fantastic view. The food in a typical Spanish restaurant was also excellent. We were the only foreign guests here. This tour may be more expensive than other offers, but it is definitely worth it. Highly recommended!
