Putu was fantastic. We were picked up at the hotel on time and had a drive to Putu’s village and home. Putu gave a tour of the family temples before we started cooking. The menu was delicious and accomodating of my pescatarian dietary preference. We made Nasi Campur and there was so much food, we had left overs to take with us. Putu gave us a young coconut from the garden and a Bintang as well. Could not recommend enough, well worth the price and time. We will try to make these dishes at home but without the wonderful garden to supply fresh ingredients it probably won’t taste as good!
We did several tours in Ubud, and we both agree this was the best by far. Putu and her husband personally picked us up from our hotel and welcomed us into their home. We not only learned a lot and were thoroughly entertained, but we also had the chance to cook dishes we would never normally try. Putu’s home is beautiful, and her hospitality was truly appreciated. We would highly recommend giving this experience a go.

We went to Putu's home for an authentic Balinese cooking class and left extremely full and very happy with our experience. Putu picked us up from our hotel and took us to her home, where the class was held. She gave us an insightful tour of the different buildings and home temples in her house, as well as the different plants and fruits that she was growing at her place. We then tried some exotic fruits such as Mangosteen (which we loved!) and Durian (which I liked but my husband wasn't a big fan) and the snakeskin fruit, which was so unique and had the aftertaste of a candy we had in our childhood. After getting some energy from the fruits and hydration from our coconut water, we started the cooking class which lasted around 2+ hours. We cooked Nasi Sela (steamed rice with sweet potato), Tempeh Manis (sweet soy sauce tempeh stir fried), Bakwan Jagung (sweet corn fritters), Urap Sayur (Green beans and other blanched veg tossed in a spiced dessicated coconut mix) and Sate Lilit (chicken skewers marinated and served with a sweet and savoury peanut sauce). Everything was made slowly and with consideration, which gave us an understanding of how Balinese people experienced their food culture. They tend to cook multiple dishes early in the day and leave the food out for members of the family to consume at their convenience, which I found to be quite interesting. Overall it was a pleasant experience, and Putu was a great host who made the whole evening very enjoyable! Considering we were on 2 hours sleep and coming back from a hectic 4 day wedding, we still really enjoyed our time, which says a lot about how fun the cooking class was!
I'm not one to book things on tripadvisor, but I did a lot of research for a class where I could really cook. Putu lived up to her reputation as a lovely human and deft teacher. Experienced cooks will not be disappointed. Highly recommend
Three friends and I signed up for this class and received an amazing experience. Putu and her family were gracious and she did an excellent job of explaining the temples typical of a Balinese household. We also enjoyed her farm tour and using ingredients from her farm. She does an excellent job of explaining and instructing. Come hungry and curious! And our meal was delicious!! I would make it part of the beginning of your trip as you will use the information on the rest of your trip!
This was one of the highlights of our trip! Putu and her family were so welcoming and made the experience so memorable. It was amazing seeing their beautiful family compound and how they live off their land and it was great to be able to learn some traditional Balinese recipes which were all exceptional. My husband and I really enjoyed Putu’s cooking class and would highly recommend this experience! I am so happy we chose this cooking class!
Putu and her husband were very warm and welcoming, Putu is very well organized and is able to accommodate differences in spicy food between members of the same party with ease. Very patient and full of good tips to be more efficient. We had an extraordinary time learning more about the Indonesian culture and traditional dishes. Too much food for two people though :-)
Putu and her team rock! Great hospitality! Delicious and informative cooking class. We highly recommend her to you. She shares her delicious cooking experience, her family garden and compound, and stories about Bali culture and life. Such fresh ingredients! Such great flavours, all ending with a fabulous meal and recipe book to take home!
From start to finish, Putu and her family welcomed us with warm Balinese hospitality. The lesson and meal, in her family compound, was fun, informative, and decidedly delicious, all the more so because it was our hands doing the cooking. The farm fresh local ingredients, many from her own garden, were a feast for the eyes and taste buds! You will not be disappointed, and you’ll learn about Balinese cooking, ingredients, and culture along the way.
