View on Google MapsIncreíble experiencia con Nico!!.
I joined a Northern Lights expedition with Nico on December 17, and it was, quite simply, the highlight of my aurora chases in Tromsø. Nico runs an intimate six-person tour in a 4×4, often taking guests off the beaten track. The small group size allows for far greater flexibility. We could stop almost anywhere auroral activity appeared, and we did exactly that: after midnight on our way back to Tromsø, Nico pulled over spontaneously next to a frozen lake, and we were rewarded with the most magnificent display of northern lights of my entire trip. As a seasoned photographer with a deep passion for nature and the aurora, Nico provides everything you would expect from a high-quality small tour: thermal suits, hot soup and drinks, tripods, and professional photos of guests under the northern lights. On paper, that might sound fairly standard for photographer-led tours. What truly sets Nico apart, however, is his genuine warmth and sociability. He is deeply engaging, makes a real effort to get to know each guest, and goes the extra mile to ensure everyone feels included. He patiently teaches you how to adjust your camera settings for aurora photography — never rushed, never condescending, always encouraging. If you want to understand how to capture the lights rather than just press the shutter, you’re in excellent hands. An important note: Nico runs a one-man company. That means you are guaranteed to have him as your guide — no surprises, no last-minute substitutions. It also means cancellations hit harder than they would for large operators, so please be considerate and don’t cancel on him. Of my three northern lights chases, I was lucky enough to experience the most brilliant display on the night I went out with my favorite guide in Tromsø. I would wholeheartedly recommend Nico at Arctic Photo Guide as a first choice for anyone considering a Northern Lights tour in Tromsø, especially for those who want to learn how to photograph the aurora.
Was a great night out with Nico, his expertise and knowledge was fantastic. Having a 4wd he could get to spots no other could. Highly recommend. Experience of a lifetime. Wes Australia.
We just completed our second tour with Nico. This time with our two kids. Nico’s knowledge and passion for the Aurora and ensuring you have the best experience possible is incredible. With the temperature at -22C for our tour, Nico was constantly making sure we were all comfortable and not getting too cold. Being a small tour group, the whole experience felt intimate and catered to our families specific needs, including Nico capturing some incredible photos for us. We loved how Nico even took the time to show us how to set our cameras to get the best photos ourselves. We would 100% recommend Nico at Arctic Photo Guide to anyone considering a Northern Lights Tour (or any guided tour) in Tromso.
As a family with 2 smaller children, we consciously decided to go on a private tour with Nico - and never regretted a second! Nico gave us an all-round perfect experience and we couldn't be happier to have found such a great tour guide! Great recommendation :-)
My wife and I booked a private tour with Nico so that we could bring our young son (too young for the bus tours). My wife ended up getting sick, so it was just me and Nico. Given it was just the two of us, Nico asked how I felt about some trekking while looking for the Northern Lights. We snowshoed to a remote lake under a full moon. It was a fantastic experience. His off-road vehicle makes things easy if needed, and Nico runs everything in a first-class way. The lights weren’t at their strongest on our night, but Nico made sure to get us in the best spot for them. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Thanks Nico!
Beautiful experience, we stayed with Nico on December 17 and it was a breathtaking experience! The guide was very kind in providing us with everything we could need, took us to more places to be able to catch the perfect aurora and I must say that, with a lot of luck, we succeeded! Beware of tour operators with buses as they are too dispersive, they will often limit themselves to bringing you to the first “glow”. I leave attached some photos taken with a very humble mobile phone.
Because Nicola runs the smallest tour out of Tromso (6 passengers), he can drive and stop his outfitted 4x4 ANYWHERE he sees activity. When I saw an opening popped up, I shuffled many other tours around to book with this company. It was worth it when, well past midnight and on the way home, he suddenly parked next to a frozen lake just before the dancing auroras started—a clear-skied explosion of moving pink and green curtains that was the most beautiful view I’ve ever seen! 🤩
I was absolutely satisfied. The small group with Nico was great, as it was possible to react accordingly at short notice, for example, when the Northern Lights were suddenly obscured by clouds. The means of transport a car I've never seen before in the Arctic winter landscape. By raising from the car, more beautiful places in nature are approachable even if the side streets had very high snow. A normal car or a minibus as well as a larger bus would have failed on some nice access roads to absolute nature. I am grateful that it worked out this year to get a place at Nico and it will certainly not have been the last time. The great photos Nico took on site and provided afterwards show the beautiful moments for the memory.
Had an amazing tour with Nico ! He was really knowledgeable of the lights, weather and the area. We found quiet a spot sheltered from the wind and with a beautiful scenery for the amazing show the sky had prepared for us. It felt like being on a hike with a couple of friends. I was also impressed with Nico's ethics. The original day of our tour was bad weather and he openly asked us whether we prefer trying the following day (which meant more work and rearranging others things for him). Plus it's really fun being in the cool being in the 4×4 snow truck and seeing where it can go and the photos you get at the end are amazing. I would highly recommend!
