No. 1190 Wuzhong Avenue, Suzhou, Jiangsu, China
View on Google MapsIt was raining and we were told to meet our guide at the outdoor exit of the metro station when we could have been picked at our hotel as it was a private tour. James made up for it by apologizing profusely for the inconvenience. He also explained extensively why we are visiting the Suzhou Museum West and not the older Suzhou museum, mentioned in the itinerary. James is very knowledgeable on the beginnings and history of Suzhou. How the “Venice of the East” was planned with north-south Grand Canal augmenting the east-west natural rivers to lower no up with the Silk Road and allowed Suzhou to flourish as a trading hub. He brought us to taste the 2nd most popular fried dumpling in Suzhou, but as tasty as the most popular joint that has a perpetual long queue. We were convinced. The boat ride was scenic, especially with the banks peppered with “dolled up” couples in traditional Suzhou fashion and doing photo shots. It was a passage through time. Kun Opera was informative but we did not want to watch it and moved on. The silk factory tour was informative and solk products were beautiful. Unfortunately teenage daughter was not in favour of the designs. Some miscommunication at the beginning of the tour but James made up for it by providing us with a good experience even with the “detours”. Thanks
