Cl. Sta. Teresa de Jesús Jornet, s/n, 05002 Ávila, Spain
View on Google MapsVery beautiful city, with many fantastic churches to know, with special interest in the life and work of St. Teresa of Avila, a doctor of the Catholic Church.
We had an amazing walking tour of Avila with our guide Lucia. She communicated to us the day before on Whatsapp and met us at our hotel right on time. She told us what a typical tour of the ancient town would be like but I asked her to spend more time on the Jewish history which she was thoroughly knowledgeable about. In fact, she led us to the Malaventura gate which was just next to our hotel (La Casa Del Presidente, highly recommend) and told us an extensive story of the history of Jews in Spain and Avila. Lucia showed us the special markers to look for on the ground which designated Jewish historic locations and even got us into some special buildings that were once synagogues. Beyond that, she really brought to life the patron saint of Avila, Theresa, and walked us both inside and outside the walls to get some excellent photo locations. Lucia was born in Avila and lives inside the city walls to this day and she had many great stories to tell about living in the town and what was going on outside the fortress where Nissan has a factory employing about 500 people. If you book, ask for Lucia.

We loved the tour. Lucia, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. For Our group of 8 people was perfect. Strongly recommend
Our local tour guide (Blanca) was knowledgeable about Avila. We unknowingly booked the tour for one of the busiest days of the year....the Feast of St Teresa of Avila. Blanca did every well navigating us thru the crowds. (with great humor) and we got a tour that still gave us a taste of the rich history of Avila and its offerings.
