View on Google MapsThis was recommended by a friend who went last year & it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! Strongly advise to do at the beginning of your stay in San Sebastian because it gives you such a good understanding of the history & culture that then puts things into context for the rest of your stay. We were lucky to be the only ones on our lunch tour with INEZ who was just a doll! Born in NY & of Basque heritage she was an encyclopedia of information. I've been on some tours where the guide is a wanna-be stand-up comedian and...no thank you. This is not that. First class all the way. It's a little pricey but worth it!
We had a great time with Gregory on our food tour in San Sebastian. He is very charismatic, funny, engaging and knowledgeable about San Sebastian and the Basque country and culture. We went to the main food market as well as several Pintxos bars and sampled amazing food and wine. We learned so much from Gregory and are glad we found him for our tour. What I really appreciated was all the information and recommendations Gregory provided, which made the rest of our time in San Sebastian so special. I highly recommend a tour with Gregory, you won't be disappointed.
We had great fun going for pintxos in San Sebastian with Basque Bites! The food and wines were fantastic, and the host was amazing! We would not have been able to do this on our own! Highly recommended!
Our tour with Basque Bites was a top 3 memory of our trip to Spain and definitely the highlight of San Sebastian. Gregory has a great vibe to him and is super knowledgeable about the history of the Basque region and (of course) the food. Not only did we have some great food on the tour but Gregory was able to assist in providing recommendations for the rest of our meals. All of which were amazing. Also, the tour is great for families and Gregory goes out of his way to accommodate the children as we were traveling with our 6-year old and there was another similar-aged child on the tour with us. Highly recommend Gregory for a food tour in San Sebastian!
We take food tours everywhere we go, but none has been better than this one. Geoffrey expertly guided us through the delicious food and wine of the Basque region, while providing an interesting and informative narrative of the area’s history and culture. We absolutely loved our time with Gregory, and this tour made our trip to San Sebastián an absolute highlight.
We do food tours in every country we visit, and this experience was hands down the best of all. Gregory took us on a journey of the food and wine of the Basque country, along with an interesting and informative narrative of the area’s history and current situation. He was so much fun to be around, and we would make sure to tell anyone travelling to San Sebastián to seek out his tours.
TLDR at the bottom- This was our second food tour in San Sebastián when we were there. The first one focused on the city center rather than the old town with a different host. Me and my girlfriend were excited that this tour specifically focused on the old town. We met Gregory at the meeting point and he was instantly awesome and very charismatic. He gave us an awesome rundown of some history of San Sebastián and pointed out things that we wouldn’t have noticed or picked up on our own about the city such as bullet holes in certain buildings. After some brief walking and history we hit our first pintxo bar and Gregory asked about allergies and any food aversions. He told us the history of the bar and what we were eating. We let Gregory guide us the whole time on food and drinks (we would suggest this because it was awesome). He paired wines for us and recommended other drinks if we didn’t feel like wine. The best part about this tour compared to others is each one is unique. Gregory knows the best places to hit and what to order. The last thing he wants to do is have you wait in line. He knows the chefs at these bars and they all know him. The best part is just letting Gregory guide you and listen to his suggestions because he knows his stuff. We had an absolutely wonderful day with him and would 100% do this tour again. TLDR- Gregory is an amazing host and if you are only going to do one food tour in San Sebastián then I would suggest this one. Me and my girlfriend had a great time and ate and drank amazing food and drinks.
Did a private lunch tour in San Sebastián with Basque Bites. My wife, me and our two college age daughters. It was simply amazing. Gregory was knowledgeable not just about the lunch and drink spots, but about Basque culture and history as well. We did the tour our first day in town, which is what I like to do in a new town to get oriented. In addition to the afternoon lunch tour, Gregory gave us his special list of places to see, other eating and drinking spots, and he stayed in touch throughout our stay for questions and recommendations. Highly recommend a tour with these guys.
Incredibly entertaining and educational day spent with Gregory, who has more knowledge of food, wine, history, and life in Basque country than anyone else you are likely to meet. My wife and I have done walking/food/wine tours all over the world, and Gregory has been one of the best ever. well worth the price of admission!
I could tell Gregory was going to be great from the start. After our initial email exchange, I knew he was both knowledgeable and charming! My husband and I spent a wonderful day with him touring the city, walking through the market and tasting pintxos. He kept us entertained while giving us a great history lesson, including that of the Basque people. We were so impressed with his ability to speak their language. He exceeded our expectations!
