View on Google MapsMy brother and I took this trip because we were so satisfied with our first trip with Jorge, the head of Pagareros, to San Rita. Jorge is a great birding guide who excels at spotting and identifying birds. His enthusiasm for birding is infectious and he found many lifers for us. His English is very good. He would happily bird with him again (as we already have!).
The tour was amazing! Jorge was so helpful and knew so much about the Cocora Valley, the birds and the nature. We saw some amazing species and learned so much! We all loved it and had the best day. Thank you Jorge!
We have never done a bird watching tour before and this was a great first experience. Juan Camilo is knowledgeable, friendly and an excellent teacher. We learned so much and loved our experience. Also, we ended our day by seeing the only Andean condor that lives in the valley as we were coming down the mountain. We would strongly recommend this tour!

The round about 7.5 hours tour started with a nice breakfast and an adventurous drive to the valley. We then continued to the trout farm where we could see plenty of birds, e.g. a green kingfisher. Since it was early morning a lot of birds were present and the valley had a lot of Charme. We then went to the viewpoint on the way we saw more birds and our Guide Santiago explained also a lot about the plants and how they are or were used as medicine. The lunch was plenty!
We had a fantastic hike with Santiago through the Cocora Valley. The weather was brilliant and the views were spectacular. For Seven hours we hiked, spotted many birds, among which the Condor and visited the hummingbird sanctuary. Santiago’s knowledge and experience was amazing and made the day one to remember for a long time! Gelmer, Liesbeth & Simon
Santiago was a very passionate guide who shared so many facts and brought great enthusiasm to our tour. I highly recommend taking a tour with Pajareros birding tours
We had the most amazing time hiking the Cocora Valley learning and spotting the most beautiful birds that live in that area. Juan Camilo was an excellent guide. So passionate and knowledgeable about birds! He made sure I could see the especies of tucán that live in Cocora which I never saw before and I was hoping to see. This experience helped us to slow down, pay attention, listen, move slowly, observe.. by the end of an almost 12 hour day we truly felt fulfilled and had the feeling of knowing a place . Highly recommended to nature lovers!
This birding tour is definitely a highlight of my Colombia trip and a lifetime memory. Juan Camilo is an amazing guide—his knowledge of birds and nature is incredible. We ended up with a great hike and saw 66 bird species! A few highlights included a variety of hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and many other local birds. Most of the birds we saw are species found only in Colombia or the Andes, which was eye-opening for someone like me coming from North America. Camilo is also very considerate and sweet. The whole team from the tour agency showed incredible passion for birds—we had a lot of interaction and you could truly tell this wasn’t just business for them, they genuinely love what they do. I did a combined hiking and birding route, and ended up seeing all the highlights of Valle de Cocora—palm trees, waterfalls, and more. I’ve traveled to a few destinations in South America, but I will remember this trip for a lifetime.
My guide, Camilo was knowledgeable, friendly, and spoke English. We saw some really cool birds. And the scenery was amazing.I highly recommend this tour in this company.
Since the five of us ranged quite a bit in age -- 32-72 - and we wanted to focus on seeing new birds on our first Colombia trip, we were reluctant to simply join an already scheduled tour. So we worked with Jorge -- who was absolutely first rate in communicating with us and answering our questions quickly and fully -- to arrange a private tour. Our guide, Santiago, was terrific: patient, knowledgeable, and as enthusiastic about looking for birds -- from indigenous warblers and woodpeckers to trogons and toucans as we were. This turned out to be a challenging hike - over 10 miles, up to nearly 3,000 meters (9.000 feet) - with more ups and downs than we realized. Still, we felt very well guided and looked after, and during the day spotted 50 different species of birds while taking in some remarkable scenery. (Especially appreciated, after getting rained on during the last 45 minutes, was having a small van waiting to transport us back to Salento, rather than the open-aired Willy's jeep we'd taken to the trailhead when the weather was sunny). All in all, it was a first-rate experience, and I have no hesitation recommending Pajareros Birding Tours to others for their professionalism, flexibility, and knowledge.
