Quito, Ecuador
View on Google MapsDaniel was an amazing wealth of knowledge. Not only did he share the history of the places we visited but he was full of so many other facts/beliefs that we aligned with. We felt his fee was such an amazing deal and feel he should be shared with everyone who visited Quito. We will be sure to spread the word to our Canadian peeps.
We really, really enjoyed Quito thanks to Daniel. He was fantastic and we highly recommend him. We were really lucky to find him!
Our time in Quito started out a little rough with one of us suffering altitude sickness. Daniel was quick to answer our message needing a later start for the tour and suggested a remedy for the sickness of dark chocolate and water (it worked pretty well). By 10:30 a.m. we were on our way, Daniel adjusted the day to make it easier and at a slower pace to deal with the altitude sickness. We visited El Panecillo, the giant statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking the city, here he explained about the battles for the city and the history preceding European settlers. (Much of prehistory is lost to lava flow over the millennia). From here we went to the main square of Quito and visited several churches, the most impressive was the Golden church of the Jesuits. It is adorned with 7 tons of gold leaf. Everything was beautiful. Daniel had a vast knowledge of the religious symbolism in the churches, and was able to show us how Christianity was introduced to the people of the region who had no concept of heaven or hell. He will tell you so many interesting things including how the church incorporates the indigenous peoples symbols for the sun and many other links between these early people. After a stop for lunch, where we enjoyed guaguas de pan and colada morada (food and drink consumed to observe the day of the dead), we were off to the Intiñan Museum at the equator. This museum, located on the actual equatorial line, had a wonderful guided tour that first discussed the history of the indigenous people of the region. Displays included real shrunken heads, animal displays and a structure made in the traditional way that keeps it insulated from the equatorial heat. There is then the demonstrations of the equatorial phenomena like the Coriolis effect and the magnetic center of the earth. You can make pix standing on the line and all the other things. Even balanced an egg on a nail. It was a lot of fun. Daniel then returned us to our hotel about 6 p.m. after our day of exploring the city. In spite of our own rough start, Daniel came through for us and we thank him. If you’re looking for an intellectual tour of the city, a lively discussion of history, religion, indigenous people, nature, and culture, Daniel is your man!
Daniel did an amazing job showing us the city! He was very fun and easy to talk to. Showed us everything we wanted to see, took us to a yummy chocolate tasting and a fun and delicious lunch as well. If you need someone to show you Quito Daniel is the guy!
I had an absolutely fantastic time on the Complete Private City Tour with Daniel Mucarsel! From start to finish, Daniel's knowledge and passion for the city made our experience truly unforgettable. He tailored the tour to our interests, taking us to hidden gems and sharing fascinating stories along the way. The personal touch made it feel like we were exploring with a friend rather than just a guide. If you want an enriching and fun way to discover the city, I highly recommend this tour! Thank you, Daniel!
The tour provided a wonderful opportunity to explore the marvelous city of Quito. The tour consisted of two parts: the equator and the old city of Quito (including Panecillo Hill). Both attractions are truly unique, like nowhere else. Exploring them with such a fantastic guide as Daniel was a pure pleasure and an unforgettable experience. Daniel is a person with extensive knowledge, charismatic, friendly and ensures a great atmosphere during the tour. We got along perfectly. I recommend him without reservations!
The Complete Private City Tour was a wonderful way to see the highlights of Quito in one day. We visited beautiful landmarks, learned interesting facts about the city’s history, and had the flexibility to explore at our own pace. Our guide was knowledgeable and took us to great spots for photos and local culture. It was nice to have a private experience, which made the day feel relaxed and personalized.
Amazing guide and such fun trips!! Daniel is full or information and passionate about his country!! 2nd time in Ecuador and 2nd time using Daniel. Did the Quito City Tour, hot springs and 4 days in the Amazon!! What a thrilling, exciting and unforgettable time!! I highly recommend Daniel and his services! You will not regret it!!
Our guide Daniel, excellent, very friendly and knowledgeable about history and culture. We toured Half the World, the Intiñan Museum and Cable Car. It was an extraordinary experience.
We found Daniel via Internet reviews and liaised with him directly to arrange a tour of Quito for one day and a second day visiting the Mindo cloud forest and equator museum. He was excellent as both a guide and a chauffeur, taking us around the places we had agreed, adding on various stops we wanted, finding a good place for a quick eat, etc. Lots of information passed on in a humourous and enthusiastic manner. We were lucky to find him and would thoroughly recommend him. We wanted quite a packed day and he delivered but others will want to focus on less or different things. He is willing to amend the itinerary to what you want to do (within what is realistic of course). We are lucky enough to travel a lot and rate Daniel as an honest, reliable, informative and fun guy to have as a local guide. His English is great if that is what you need, and he is a safe driver.
