Piazza dei Miracoli, Pisa PI, Italy
View on Google MapsOur private tour of Pisa was an unforgettable experience that far exceeded our expectations. Of course, we went for the famous Leaning Tower—but what we discovered was a city full of rich history, stunning architecture, and delicious food. The tour started early in the morning with a warm welcome from our local guide, who was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We made our way to Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), where the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa awaited. It’s even more impressive in person than in pictures. Thanks to our pre-booked private tour, we skipped the long lines and were among the first groups to climb to the top. The climb up the tower is a surreal experience—between the tilt and the narrow stone steps, you can really feel the lean as you ascend. At the top, we were rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Pisa and the surrounding Tuscan countryside. It was absolutely worth every step. Next, we visited the Pisa Cathedral (Duomo di Pisa), an architectural masterpiece that’s often overshadowed by the Tower. The interior was breathtaking, with its marble columns, golden ceilings, and intricate mosaics. Our guide explained the fascinating blend of Romanesque, Gothic, and Islamic influences in the design, which we would have completely missed on our own. After soaking in the history and beauty of the religious complex, we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at a charming trattoria tucked away just outside the tourist-heavy zone. The food was authentic and delicious—homemade pasta, fresh local ingredients, and, of course, a glass (or two) of Tuscan wine. In the afternoon, we walked through Pisa’s historic center, far from the crowds. The city has so much more to offer than just the tower—from medieval buildings and quiet cobblestone streets to bustling little piazzas filled with students from the university. Our guide shared stories from Pisa’s time as a powerful maritime republic, and we saw traces of that rich history around every corner. What made the experience truly special was the personalized touch. Our guide adapted the pace to our interests, answered every question with enthusiasm, and shared small details—like local legends and hidden alleyways—we never would’ve found on our own. Final thoughts: If you're visiting Pisa, don't just stop for a quick photo with the tower. Take a private tour and immerse yourself in the city's full story. It was one of the most enriching and enjoyable days of our trip to Italy!

Our tour guide gave us a great tour of the city, the leaning tower and the cathedral. Maria knew the history well and taught us things we didn’t know. We came to Pisa for the tower but will go back because of what we learned from our tour. Thank you Maria.
Our Tour Guide Maria was fantastic, she was very knowledgable and you could tell she loves her job. I could have listened to her all day. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
Maria was our skip the line private tour guide for our day trip to Pisa from Livorno, during our honeymoon last month (September 2019. We were in Pisa 9/27/19). She was awesome! Gave us very interesting information and tailored to our interests based on our conversations. Thank you so much for helping make our time in Italy amazing, Maria!
We arrived in Pisa early so we could take it in visually before meeting our guide. Our guide was terrific. She Gave us the context of the cathedral and tower you would never know or pick up without her being there. Going to the top of the leaning tower was an experience. The steps can be slippery and most noticeable on the way down which seemed longer than going up.
This private tour of Pisa is the best way to navigate a very crowded area in the summer! Our guide Maria was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and passionate about the city. She also offered recommendations to local area restaurants. One of which we ate in and enjoyed. She also considered the needs of our group which included both teenagers and younger children.
