Phonsavan, Laos
View on Google MapsReflecting on my week in Laos, I would say this tour rates at the top of the list. I spent a day visiting the sites of the Xieng Khouang region: Plain of Jars (sites 1-3), the Old Capital of Muang Khoun, and the noodle and spoon villages with my amazing tour guide Sakhone. It was just me and her and she not only told me the history of the sites but our conversations on Lao culture, history, people, and society gave me a deeper insight into this marvelous country. Although it was a long day, it was such a great experience with Sakhone. Highly worth it!! She is knowledgeable, friends with the locals, and fun to be with. The Field of Jars are magnificent and a must see, but my biggest highlight was making noodles in the village and then eating them for lunch in a local restaurant. The Spoon Village was a bit quiet when we arrived because everyone was preparing for a wedding but we managed to see some spoon making and meet some locals. When you get to Phonsavan, this is the only tour you need to do. I guarantee it!
This was such a beautiful, interesting tour. Amazing UNESCO heritage sites and we had fun along the way! Spending the day with Sakhone was awesome. We got great food and saw other interesting locations. I then stayed at her bed & breakfast that night and felt so taken care of and welcome! Thank you so much!

She made our Xiengkhouang trip shine! Her knowledge and ability to speak in English kept our large group engaged & informed. She even opened a closed mulberry farm for us! She was always on time and well organised. Highly recommend!
