View on Google MapsWe really enjoyed this experience. Basil was not only telling the history of Petra but also showing his best spots to see it. Although climbing to the monastery even backstage involves quite significant climb, it was worth it. Highly recommend.
We had an amazing day touring Petra! The site is absolutely incredible. Bassil was a great guide and would highly recommend the tour.
Bassil was an amazing tour guide and very knowledgeable about Petra. He knew all the great spots that you wouldn’t see if you went alone. I had a tight schedule, as I had to make a flight after, and Bassil was really accommodating and made sure I had the best experience in the time I had. Petra is arguably the best visit I’ve ever had.
I highly recommend using Bassil as a guide when visiting Petra! Very knowledgeable, engaging and super nice guy! Enjoy! Tim and Norman ~ Illinois, USA
Bassil contacted me the day before the excursion to confirm which was appreciated. He is very knowledgeable and took time to explain what we were walking past and viewing. He took some amazing photos of me in Petra. It can be very hot and the back entrance is about 7 miles to the front gate so I would recommend hiking boots. I wore flats which was my own fault but I managed to make it through. The boots will give you more grip while climbing the rocks.
We had a wonderful time with Bassil, everything went as expected. We spent around 7 hours in Petra having time to see everything without any rush.
We were 4 - all of us loved out trip to Petra. Taking a guide is a great idea as we learnt more and he was patient answering our many questions. A fantastic experience and certainly a safe one, as at no point did we feel our safety was at risk. We would encourage you to visit Petra.
Couldn’t have had a better guide than Basil for getting oriented and introduced to Petra. Bassil makes sure to take into account not only his customers interests but also what works best for them and offers excellent choices. I hadn’t been in Wadi Musa for more than 12 hrs before the tour and was still battling the 8 hr time difference. Bassil suggested an alternative for the route I had chosen and I still got in my hike while not starting the day going uphill. I had a wonderful day, and lots of beautiful moments captured by Bassil to remember by.
Jordan was safe and our tour of Petra was fantastic. Our guide Basil was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. He recommended many helpful tips to make our trip memorable.
Do not hesitate to reserve! This tour is with an experienced guide named Bassil who has 18+ years giving tours at Petra. After booking on Viator, I reached out on the platform to Bassil for their WhatsApp contact to continue conversation and make special requests. I wanted to see the Monastery at Sunrise (7:30am) which requires very careful planning and logistics including reserving mules and checking with the gate guards one day early. Bassil fully delivered and not only did we arrive early at the Monastery at 6:57am, we were the first ones in the whole park! It was completely empty and we enjoyed a serene moment watching the sunrise and pink sky in the horizon. I will try to post a picture in this review. After 90 minutes alone in the Monastery, other tourists began showing up. We left at about 10am to explore the rest of Petra. Bassil took us to the Marketplace, Theater, Royal Tombs, and more caves, before finishing up at the Treasury (iconic spot). Bassil gave a history lecture at each site. There were a few stops along the way for restrooms, beverages, sitting down, etc. Petra is actually very well developed while it balances an authentic archaeological experience. I found plenty of broken pottery and marble pieces on the ground along the paths, it is really an excavation that is still alive! I am also a coin collector and Bassil helped me find a Bedouin seller of nice looking replica coins nearby the Marketplace. Bassil also recommended more things to do and places to eat in Petra. Bassil went WAY above and beyond by helping us buy new Bedouin winter coats "Farwa" (they were giving Star Wars Jawa vibes), brought them to our hotel to try on later that night with no obligation to purchase. Wow!!! (And yes we did buy them, and yes they look awesome with jeans and white tennis shoes.) Tourism has dropped in Jordan in general and Petra specifically, but it is still very safe and everyone we have met are extremely welcoming, hospitable, and helpful. I recommend you visit Petra and book a guided experience with Bassil!
