View on Google MapsOur guide was not only late, but he did not seem very practiced or knowledgeable. He had a rambling and unpolished delivery and really didn’t know how to handle a group in a city. For example, when the bells at the chapel started going off overhead very loudly, he just proceeded talking at a normal volume like we could all still understand him. He would sometimes get up to a landmark and begin his speech before the bulk of the group caught up, so a lot was missed. What’s more, many of the landmarks didn’t seem to connect to anything spooky or ghost-related. A very pushy and loud patron kind of took over the group by loudly rambling over our guide, who did nothing about this. This tour was truly a waste of time. We walked away halfway through.
So there’s a few reasons why we are ranking this a 3. Firstly, customer article was less than desirable: We were going to be 4 to 5 minutes late to our tour that started at 7:30pm so I called at 7 to let them know and make sure that that was okay/to see if we could meet up with them on the walk if they were starting right on time. The person I spoke with had a lot of attitude and said 1. They would not wait for us and 2. They would not let us meet the group along the route or tell us which direction they start in. We were also told we wouldn’t be refunded or be able to reschedule if we missed it but that “five minutes late might be okay, you’ll just have to see”. This was inconsistent with our experience upon arrival: We arrived at 7:32pm and half the group wasn’t there, and the tour guide said “we’re going to wait another 7 minutes or so to let people show up, parking can be crazy”…mind you we were just told the opposite by whomever runs the tours. But main reason we’re ranking it low is because of our guide. He was very awkward and soft spoken and did not have a lot of basic factual information correct like the years buildings were built or details of well-known events (like the Stanley Milgram experiments). It didn’t feel very spooky because he didn’t explain things well—think “that building is the most haunted in New England, people hear screams etc” but doesn’t say WHY it’s haunted or what the theory is or what happened there to make it “haunted”. Very disappointing . Our guide just did not seem to know what he was talking about outside of the script he was given (and clearly did not memorize) Good things: The actual tour locations and the length of the tour, were great! I just wish we were given more details and information about each place and the history, the WHY of it being included on the tour. If our guide had more knowledge of New Haven and charisma I think this could be amazing. I’m sure other tour guides are great and that’s why many people enjoy coming, but unfortunately ours was just really subpar and it didn’t feel like a ghost tour so much as some guy fumbling around New Haven after reading the wiki page or something.

We truly had fun and it was very relaxing to tour the Yale campus, including walking outside the Secret Society buildings, Harkness Tower, the graveyard gates, and more, & then reading more about the sites and stories afterwards.
The Ghost walk leader was soft spoken, had no microphone, very nice but not engaging or very entertaining. A bit painful to sit thru. I was really looking forward to it but was pretty disappointed.
The tour of Yale was very memorable, but I wish the grave yard was open. The stories the tour guide shared were good but he didn't seem like he was from the area
The guide was nervous and soft spoken he also seemed very inexperienced. Unfortunately not we had in mind. We were disappointed that it was not a ghost tour and most of it was about architecture
Our tour guide Lia was excellent. We had a private tour for a group of 21 of us. She was friendly, patient & insightful. Would highly suggest this to other groups. It was a great way to visit Yale in the dark.
Nice tour guide but did not have confidence in his knowledge of the area so it basically amounted to looking at a pretty building and calling the architect crazy because the buildings were on native American burial grounds. Neither informative or compelling. Felt like the guide spent more time practicing a bad Vincent Price accent than reviewing his notes. Wikipedia and a low battery would be a more dependable recipe for thrilling edutainment.
Not knowing the area, we were late to arrive and our guide graciously returned for us and allowed us to join the group. We were surprised by an invitation to listen to a concert playing in the Yale steeple and the group voted to go, although that was not in the plan, he went with it and then carried on. All in all, a great experience despite the heat and the extra city noise from a night market. Definitely would recommend
Tour was set during a Friday night market with no indication of how to locate the guide and it was just downhill from there. Couldn’t hear him half the time. Felt like the tour was being made up on the fly and was more about Yale than ghost or haunted occurrences. He pointed out the wrong buildings, gave incorrect facts, and we didn’t even go to the advertised locations. He took us to a part of campus for no reason and was googling facts as we went along. Started with 9, ended with 3 in the group.
