View on Google MapsThis was a very authentic, intimate, and educational experience. We’ve been to Japan a few times already and the calligraphy and tea ceremony gave us a unique peek into Japanese culture that we’ve never had before. It was specially fun to learn the basics of calligraphy which is apparently a lot harder than you might imagine. The charming venue was the host’s (Yuzo) own house (over 100 years old) and he shared his own memories of growing up in a traditional home. They also had personal items like a traditional Buddhist altar and Japanese kimono which they showcased to further add to the experience. The hosts (Yuzo and Kumiko) spoke very good English, were very hospitable and warm. They were even gracious enough to arrange for our taxi pick up. Will definitely recommend this for anyone going to Nagoya!
It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot from the explanations they gave, as well as they were a very nice couple and they gave their time to explain everything clearly and easily, as well as the atmosphere was nice during the visit.

If you are looking for a great experience whilst visiting Nagoya I highly recommend this. The hosts are a lovely couple who welcome you into their home and teach you how to do Japanese calligraphy producing your own unique work which you take home with you. You also experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. You will enjoy this experience and it will provide you with a long lasting memory.
The hosts were so kind and offered such great hospitality !! The experience was well explained and guided, a lot of fun for all ages and 100% worth booking if searching for a traditional experience!
Incredible experience that will remain one of the favorites of our trip. We highly recommend if you pass through Nagoya! The hosts welcomed us warmly into their traditional Japanese house. Both parts were exceptional, both the introduction to calligraphy (it was a first for me!) and the tea ceremony. As the host would say: “ichigo ichie”: a once-in-a-lifetime event and encounter. Thank you for the numerous explanations and this unparalleled welcome. (At the end of the experience, you will have the opportunity to purchase items for calligraphy or even tea)
The history briefing, the writing experience, the tea flavor, the warm hosts, the location is reasonably easy to find.
Fantastic calligraphy and tea ceremony in a traditional house. The hosts were very friendly and informative with good english, and they will frame your calligraphy for you as a free souvenir. Definitely recommend if you are travelling to Nagoya.
Yuzo and Kumi are so welcoming into their traditional Japanese home. I really enjoyed the experience of the calligraphy and tea ceremony. They are very patient and great teachers! They even ordered us a taxi back to our hotel when the session was over. Would recommend giving them a visit to anyone in the Nagoya area looking to have a snippet of Japanese culture.
With an extensive knowledge of Japan and many different tea ceremonies attended we can simply state that a tea ceremony here is a highlight! Done with such respect and clear instructions it is a great way to learn more about the complex tea ceremony and to experience it in all tranquility. The ancient wooden house breathes authenticity and the owners who set up this business take care of it as well as the customers with the utmost respect. The calligraphy workshop is an excellent way to learn more about its history and the technique behind. You will never look at a Japanese scroll again in the same way after this workshop! The hosts are very kind and welcoming and excellent in what they do. We can highly recommend this combined workshop far away from the touristy ones you will find in Kyoto.
We had a fabulous time! The historical overview was very well done and provided clear context. Calligraphy is much harder to do but our teacher was very patient. The tea ceremony that followed was exquisite. We even had a chance to try our skills at whisking the tea…not as easy as it looks.
