View on Google MapsVery informative and we were very fortunate to have Anthony Shriner’s son on our tour and got to talk with him after the slide show. We enjoyed Col. Barton’s talk very much. Well worth our time and money!! The WW II memorial was impressive and we saw the area where the Vietnam memorial will be.
Very informative the history of the base and the men who served there it was well done and well presented
The whole trip was excellent. Katherine was so friendly, very knowledgeable. She really enjoys her job, very enthusiastic. The veteran was just wonderful. This was the 2nd time we went on this military tour. We all recommend not only veterans but non-vets to learn and appreciate what they did for all of us. Thank you. Also a special thank you to our trolley driver.
We attended with tour with my parents. My dad was a colonel in the airforce. we found the tour very interesting and enjoyable. We also really enjoyed the guest speaker portion of the tour. He was fascinating.
The guest speaker, retired Ltd. Colonel Barton shared his experiences about the Myrtle Beach air base. The tour guide was also excellent and shared the history of the base.
Everything! The reception afterward was great...it was so nice to meet a person that was here during the WWII
Highly recommend for US aviation history buffs, people interested in real estate development and local history. On the Socially distanced enclosed “trolley” you see remaining repurposed buildings from Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, make short stops at significant spots, finish with yummy food and fascinating slide show/talk by one of the A-10 pilots!
Myrtle Beach Military History Trolley Tour, We loved our tour of the old Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, which is now known as Market Common. Our tour guide was knowledgeable of the base’s rich history and passionate about relaying this information to the people on her tour. The tour consisted in two sections, a driving/walking tour, and a video presentation at Tupelo Honey restaurant. I especially enjoyed driving through the base housing district seeing where the base personnel lived, which is still there today, and seeing some of the base aircraft on display in the outdoor area of Warbird Park, and a Army Corp Airfield that was used as a bombing and Gunnery range during WWII. After the driving portion of the tour we went to the Tupelo Honey restaurant for the video presentation of the tour where we were served some delicious Southern appetizers and listened to a retired Air Force colonel that was part of the base history discuss the fascinating operation of the base from WWII to when it was closed down in March, 1993. I highly recommend this tour to anyone that has an interest in the U.S. military, aviation, or learning more about the history of the Myrtle Beach area. Tim & Angela
Excellent tour. Our guide was terrific and the reception and speaker at Tupelo Honey was great. Highly recommend.
Interesting tour of the Market Common area which used to be the old Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Many of the old military buildings and base housing are still in use throughout the community. The tour included an interesting talk from a local retired Air Force Colonel (the plane he flew is on display at Warbird Park in Market Common) while enjoying appetizers at Tupelo Honey. As a new resident of Market Common, highly recommend!
