View on Google MapsJust got back from four absolutely unreal days on safari and I’m still buzzing! We did Tsavo East first (two nights at Voi Wildlife Lodge) then crossed over to Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary for one night at the insane Salt Lick Lodge, and honestly it was perfection. Voi Wildlife Lodge is literally built right above a waterhole; we sat on the terrace with coffee at sunrise and watched herds of elephants, buffaloes, zebras and even a lion pride come down to drink like it was the most normal thing in the world. The red dust, the baobabs, the endless plains… classic Tsavo vibes. Rooms are simple but clean, food was surprisingly good (loved the ugali and nyama choma) and the staff were proper legends. Then Salt Lick – wow. Those stilted rondavels are straight out of a movie. The waterhole in the middle is lit up all night and we saw elephants literally touching distance from the balcony at 2 a.m. while sipping a Tusker. I’ve got videos I’ll be showing people for years. We packed in so many animals: huge elephant herds, lions (one male walked right past the jeep!), cheetah with cubs, giraffe everywhere, hyenas, jackals, crocs, hippos, thousands of birds… the lot. Dust on our faces, laughing every time the jeep got stuck, freezing at dawn and roasting by lunch – proper safari life. Biggest shout-out has to go to our guide Jonathan from Joppa Kenya Safaris. The guy is a walking animal encyclopedia, has eyes like a hawk, and somehow always knew exactly where the action was. He made everything fun, kept us safe, and even sorted out cold drinks when the cooler died. Absolute hero. If you’re thinking about a short safari out of Mombasa or Nairobi, book these guys. Four days felt like two weeks in the best way possible. Already trying to figure out when I can come back. Asante sana Jonathan & Joppa – you smashed it! 🦁🐘

This was my first time to Kenya. My friend and traveling companion worked for almost a decade in Kenya some time ago. She knew what she wanted. Joppa Kenia Safaris was more than accommodating in putting together the trip experience she was looking for. Geo (aka George) was the sprinkles on the sundae. He has a deep knowledge of all things Kenya, not just the things that roam the park. In addition, he is personable and seriously patient. My friend was looking for species she had not previously experienced. Geo did everything to assure we had glimpses, if not outright "picture perfect" stops of so many animals. It may have been a mistake for me to have this as my first experience in this wild, beautiful and unique place. This was a penultimate trip I do not think I could top. I know my friend was also quite impressed with what we were able to see on this safari.
Joppa tailored the safari to our schedule and needs, picking us up at our guesthouse in Diani Beach, heading to three nights in Tsavo East, Tsavo West, and Amboseli, respectively. Our guide, George (Geo), is exceptionally knowledgeable and quickly picked on the subtleties of what to point out, knowing we had some knowledge of Kenyan wildlife, but looking to delve deeper. Not all guides can do that, but Geo got it. He was attentive to things we wanted to see and did everything he could to make that happen. Not being tourists that expect animals show up just because we were there, he understood that sometimes we just wanted to take time to watch whatever was around. Geo made sure we were aware of important schedules and at the end of the safari got us to the train station to return to Nairobi. Highly recommend this company and are grateful to have had Geo managing logistics and being by our side throughout the trip.
My safari with Joppa was amazing I did a four day tsars east and Tsavo west safari. I had Jonathan as my driver and I can say this was a great safari. The selection on my accommodations was top notch and I really enjoyed every moment. Asante sana Joppa team!
My husband and I (biologists, in our 50’s/60’s) consider our 4 days/3 nights with Joppa Kenia Safaris to be one of our best vacation experiences. Jonathan is a knowledgeable and thoughtful guide. We saw elephants, lions, a leopard, hyenas, jackals, hippos, crocodiles, water buffalo, giraffes, and MANY types of antelope. Noting our interest, Jonathan also spotted many birds and pulled over whenever my husband wanted to photograph plants or insects. Thanks to Jonathan’s network of guide colleagues, we always knew where the best chances of spotting the big game were. The lodges we stayed at were comfortable and had great food (we even thought the limited hours of electricity or hot water added to the adventure). Jonathan’s deep knowledge of the wildlife of Amboseli, Tsavo East and West National Parks, combined with his resourcefulness allowed us to make the most of each site during our visit. He was warm, congenial and patient during our trip and we appreciated his company. By including three different parks, each with its own distinct landscapes and habitats, this tour offers fabulous opportunities to experience the rich biodiversity for which Kenya is justifiably famous.
We had a great 4-day safari with Joppa Kenia Safaris! Rachel was very helpful and answered all our questions quickly. She made planning easy. Our guide, George, was amazing! He knew so much about the animals and found the Big Four for us. He was friendly, patient, and made the trip exciting. Everything was well organized, good accommodation, at Voi wildlife lodge, Ngulia safari Lodge and Kibo safari Camp. we had smooth transport by a 4x4 land Cruiser, and a great experience. Highly recommended!
