Semi Private Surf Lessons with Experienced Coaches

We had the best experience with Maui Surfer Girls. Registration was simple and organized- everything was very smooth. We had clear instructions and directions and it wasn’t stressful in any way. Our instructor was Andrew Goldberg and he was so fabulous- he taught my husband, 11-yo son, and me, and was so gracious, patient, and helpful. I was impressed with his ability to connect with my hesitant son and coax him out to surf- all three of us were able to successfully do it. My other son, being younger, had a private lesson with Jedi and the two of them absolutely hit it off. My son popped up immediately and ran circles around the rest of us, certainly a testament to Jedi’s teaching and the value of private instruction. Jedi was fun and encouraging and enthusiastic. Thanks for giving Max such a wonderful experience for his birthday. Highly recommend this group from start to finish!

I couldn't say better things about my experience surfing with Maui Surfer Girls. I was with Sloane and she was an excellent coach. We started by learning the basics on the sand, which was super helpful, then we were in the water for a little over 90 minutes. The waves at Ukumehame were great for a beginner like me, and the weather was beautiful. Sloane was super patient, great at finding the right waves, physically very helpful in "towing" me out (putting her foot on the toe of my board and then paddling out) when my arms got tired from paddling, and giving me a push off into some of the waves. She is a wonderful and natural teacher. I thought the cost was great for a small group, two-hour lesson. Parking was free and easy right off the highway. My family came too and were able to play on the beach and watch me--just note that there isn't a ton of shade at this beach. MSG provides boards, booties (it's a coral bottom), and rash guards (if you don't have your own). There was also a photographer at the site--Jungle Rootz Hawaii--who took nice pictures of the session that you could buy after. If you are looking to learn how to surf, I truly couldn't recommend Maui Surfer Girls, and Sloane, more! Do it!

I highly recommend Maui Surfer Girls. We took a lesson with Kelly here 10 years ago, and it was really fun. We finally had a chance to return to Maui and this year we had a fantastic beginner lesson with Jedi for two of us (age >65!) and our 29 year old son. The lesson was the perfect combination of technical instruction appropriate for each of us, encouragement, and appreciation for the incredible natural environment of Maui. I was nervous that I would not be able to get up at all but thanks to Jedi's instructions that were customized for each of us, we all caught some waves and it was so gratifying.

My fiancée and I both enjoyed Maui Surfer Girls and the instructors. Jedi was our instructor and he was very informative, positive, and patient. He always tried to get us the best wave and make sure we were rested. Your neck and shoulders will get a big workout. The weather was perfect for the afternoon and we had no real complaints. Make sure you wear long pants and not just shorts, or the board will probably irritate the skin on your inner thighs. Also, MAKE SURE you put sunscreen on the back of your legs because they’re pointed up at the sun being on the board. Overall, it was a good experience and I’d recommend Maui Surfer Girls to anyone wanting to try surfing.

My boyfriend and I did a surf lesson with Maggie, and it was great! We're from Florida, and I had taken a couple lessons before, but this lesson was more informative than any I'd done in the past. I managed to get up 2 out of 3 tries. Previously, I'd only managed to stand once across multiple lessons I'd taken. This lesson will really set you up for success.

We had the BEST time with Maui Surfer Girls today! 🌊 From the moment we arrived, the whole experience was welcoming and so much fun. Our instructor, Maggie, was an absolute rockstar — she made safety super clear and easy to understand, and then broke down the techniques in a way that was simple and encouraging. My husband got up on his board every single time, and I was able to get up too thanks to her guidance (and a lot of cheering on!). The whole vibe was positive, supportive, and filled with laughs, exactly what you’d hope for on a Maui adventure. If you’re even thinking about trying surfing, do it with Maui Surfer Girls, and if you can, ask for Maggie. She’s patient, knowledgeable, and seriously the best hype woman out there. We’ll remember this experience forever!

Jedi was a great instructor. It was my first time surfing and we had a mini beach lesson to go over basics and to teach us how to be safe out in the water. Everyone in my group was able to get up and ride the waves! I would DEF recommend wearing leggings to the lesson because the back of your legs can be irritated by the boards. I feel like you really get a lot out of the lesson and makes you a lot more confident in the water.
