View on Google MapsAn absolutely top experience with Soma Adventure. A truly authentic activity connected to reindeer herding, far from the usual tourist attractions — here you really get in touch with nature, the animals and the local culture. Everything is organized with great care and passion. A special thank you to Hely, outstanding in every way: professional, attentive, engaging and always available. She truly made the difference and turned this into an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something genuine and special.
It goes about 35km north up to Lake Suksijarvi, where we first visit a real reindeer farm. Pikka and Tuikku, both come from the area and grew up here, so we get really authentic first-hand information about life here in the far north. Around 700 reindeer winter on the farm, which are counted, marked and cared for here. The owner proudly leads us to one of the enclosures where we are allowed to feed and show around a large number of the majestic animals. The animals receive Likka, a type of moss that must be collected by hand in October of the previous year in large quantities for the winter in the surrounding forests, a strenuous and important work of reindeer keepers. From here, it is only a short distance further to a small hut in the middle of the wilderness on the shore of a frozen lake. First we warm up a bit and then we also go snowshoeing over the lake and then through the forest on the other side to a hill where Pikka tells us exciting things about nature and life in the wilderness. Finally we head back to the hut, where the fireplace is already heated and local sausages, drinks and pastries are waiting for us. This interesting excursion is definitely highly recommended!
A huge thank you to our guides Pikka and Tuikku, they were both so nice and have taken many beautiful pictures for us. We have enjoyed so much this tour. Really amazing visiting the arctic reindeer farm and snowshoeing in the wild. We highly recommend this company and this activity.
This experience was by far the best of our trip in Lapland. There were 5 of us (hubby, wife, 2 adult kids and 1 partner) and we were picked up by our guide Pikka and taken to her neighbour's reindeer farm where we hand fed the deer and lead them around for a short walk. There was plenty of time for happy snaps as we learned about deer herding and life in Lapland generally. We then drove to a cosy cabin next door had hot drinks and warmed up by the fire. The snow shoe experience takes you across a frozen lake into a forest, truly surreal and magical experience. Pikka gave us lots of information about the forest and let us find our way back to the cabin giving us time alone in the wilderness. We never felt rushed and back at the cabin we had a sausage cooked over the fire and ate a delicious home made dessert by Heli. Overall this felt truly authentic and I can't recommend highly enough.
In the week before Christmas 2025 a great well-groomed day experienced with my family in Lompolo, organized by Heli. What a cozy, enthusiastic fun woman is Heli, she had so much to tell us about authentic life in Finnish Lapland. Visited her family’s reindeer farm, where we were allowed to feed the reindeer, pet them and there was plenty of time to take pictures. Then in the cottage spoiled with various delicacies. Once warmed up, we went outside to take a snowshoe walk across the frozen lake to and through the woods. This day was so pure, really a gift!
This is an experience me and my husband will never forget. It was so personal and unique when compared to major tourist tours. We met some reindeer on a working reindeer farm and got to feed them. Then we went to the hosts own property where we did snow shoeing across a frozen lake. We then cooked sausages and had home made cake. We were made to feel like part of the family and had a bonus snowmobile experience before being taken back to our hotel. The guide was so knowledgeable and lived in the area all her life so was able to share her experience, culture and knowledge. Overall a fantastic trip and one we definitely recommend.
The only reason I’m giving Heli and Soma Adventures 5 stars is because I can’t give them 10 stars! Our time with Heli was the highlight of an amazing trip to Lapland’s. As a family, we live more authentic experiences and this fit that perfectly! Driving with Heli out to her property was great, as she told us all about growing up and living around Levi. Then she took us to her neighbor’s reindeer farm where we walked freely amongst, fed and walked hundreds of reindeer. She told us all about what life was like for a reindeer farmer and answered all of our questions. She then took us to her cabin by the most gorgeous lake I’ve ever seen. Looking right was sunrise and left was sunset. I’ve never seen anything like it! We snoeshowed across the lake and into the forest where we played and took a billion pictures while she went back to the cabin to prepare a fire and a snack for us (sausages, marshmallows, delicious homemade apple pie, hot chocolate and hot berry drinks). We warmed by the fire talking about our experience before she drove us back. She invited us to drive back to the lake at night to see the northern lights if we wanted, and we did, seeing the most spectacular show! If I had to say something negative, it would be that none of our other experiences could live up to our wonderful time with Heli! Reach out to Soma Adventures and Heli to book an amazing experience!
Small group experience with a special thanks to guide Ellen. We enjoyed visiting the farm and the walk on the lake and through the woods
It’s such a unique excursion. Truly local, and lovely to do. The farm is a cute experience with feeding the reindeer. The snowshoe walking is not for people with no condition. It is really very hard. But afterwards you’re greeted in their home for a nice hotdrink. So conclusion: book this if you want to avoid mass tourism and experience the real Lapland.
One of our favorite days in Lapland! We enjoyed meeting Heli, who is so kind and wants you to really enjoy every part of the experience. We went snowshoeing, sat by the fire, went to a remote reindeer farm supporting the local family of this region, and had a wonderful afternoon enjoying warm drinks and treats. It was a great experience to enjoy the beauty and calm serenity of Lapland. I really appreciated how it’s not commercialized and it is in the small region of Lompolo. Meeting the reindeer and getting to feed them was such a fun time for me. My husband and I enjoyed our time so much! Thank you for being a wonderful host and letting us experience true Lapland winter. I can’t wait to go back one day.
