View on Google MapsWe had already done a food tour in Kolkata and thought it was so good we wanted to try another one. And this one was just as memorable - Muzaffar showed us to interesting, bustling parts of his city, feeding us along the way as well as giving us history lessons. A great way to spend three hours.
Luckily, no one else had booked the tour, so I had a private tour😊. Muzzafar did it perfectly from A to Z. He took me to very authentic street food places in Kolkata. Everything was delicious! He also explained the historical background of the city to me. Lastly, Muzzafar's courteous and very friendly manner must be mentioned. I really enjoyed it...Thank you!
Our guide, Muzaffar Khan, was knowledgable, professional, and fun! In 4 hours we had no less than 10 unique and exciting tastings/experiences. We were met in our hotel lobby on time and escorted into an a/c’d taxi for a ride to the Indian Coffee House which also offered a chance to see the College Street book market! At the coffee house we had fish sticks and egg battered fried mutton with a delicious curried ketchup sauce. True Bengali comfort food! We also enjoyed a “special coffee” the was rich, thick, creamy, and sweet. Special indeed! We then walked to Putiram Sweet Shop, a traditional spot for Bengali sweets for over 150 years, for a sample tray of desserts, all of which were delicious, but not to be missed is the pista barfi! A pistachio flavored milk based dessert that reminds of cheesecake. 😋 We then walked to several more spots including a restaurant serving Kathi rolls (brilliant burrito-like wraps with tandoori chicken inside), a street vendor serving fresh pressed fruit juices, a stop to sit and share masala chai with colleagues of Muzaffar’s, a stop at a saree shop in New Market (a special treat when I shared that I was interested in sarees), then a visit to a food festival (part of the celebration in preparation for Durga Puja), where we had panipuri, chicken kabobs, misti doi (a tangy, yogurt-like milk pudding), and finally a tasty little finger sized treat wrapped in beetle leaves! A truly tasty night to remember and a great intro to Kolkata!
Absolutely incredibly. Great food, historical aspects of Kolkata, great conversations. One of the best tours I have done.
Fantastic tour, I had such a great time exploring the river front, riding the Metro, trying street food, Indian Coffee House, fresh juices, sweets. Much more than I could eat! Muzaffar was so much fun to spend the evening exploring Calcutta with. Highly recommend!
Great tour, great food! This tour mixes food, culture, history and amazing gems of Kolkata. I highly recommend!
Our last night in Kolkata and the best. A private tour full of humour, stories, history, adventure and insights into this great city. With a backdrop of amazing food stops! Don’t eat before you join as Muzaffar will keep your belly calling for more. His relaxed style is open to side detours and a candid view of the history of Kolkata and life here today. Highly recommend would give 7 stars if possible!!
A delightful first night introduction to Kolkata by a true expert of his field. As one tour guide to another, thoroughly impressed!
This was great fun. Muzaffer is knowledgeable and very good company, and he has a fine selection of authentic food venues to take you to, both restaurants and on-street vendors. Be warned, come hungry (no lunch!) and don't be tempted to eat too much at the Indian Coffee House which is early in the tour, because there is plenty more to come. We went here and there by taxi and on foot, speeding about, seeing different corners, back streets and markets of Kolkata, and chatting. The Hogg Market area especially was pretty spectucular at night.By the end felt we had made a friend, as well as eating FAR too much!
Muzzaffar picked us from the hotel, showed us many of the night spots locals go. we tasted local foods and explained the stories behind the places, the food and the people. Muzzaffar is a great story teller, know his home city and where to get good local snacks. Great night.
