View on Google MapsLong day but worth it. Dell did a great job driving and also describing much of the history and background of things.
This was a great tour, and Jason F. was a fantastic guide! He gave us a lot of information and insights, and we saw so much!
This is a long roller coaster ride through the beauty of authentic Maui rainforest. I just wish we had started our visit with this great tour.
Lisa was an excellent driver/guide. We were picked up at our Air bnb and dropped off at the end. She had many wonderful stories and gave historical context. Wonderful time
It was an amazing experience and our tour driver Jason made it really special and authentic Highly recommended tour and the driver knowledge about the island made it even more unique!!!!! Filippo and Isabella
Jason was amazing and made the trip very delightful. He made some surprise stops along the way an took us to the best banana bread stand! Also we got to try fruit! I definitely recommend this trip and if possible ask for Jason! He was born and raised here and is very in touch with the culture!
This is NOT the experience you want if you don’t want to spend all day in a van or stoping at roadside banana bread stands. The highlight of the tour was WAIʻĀNAPANAPA STATE PARK and its black sand beaches. The environment, vegetation and ecological sites were stunning. It truly felt like paradise. We spent an hour here but would’ve loved more time to explore. The other highlight was stopping at a waterfall. However, it was a small waterfall just off the side of the road. It was crowded with other groups and we only had maybe 20 mins at this stop. I originally booked this specific tour based on the reviews and photos of amazing hiking, waterfall and sea turtle adventures. I mean the title of the tour includes the word waterfalls. We saw several waterfalls but only stopped at one. That was definitely mis-representation in the headline and description. We were looking for a hike to a waterfall followed by a swim. That did not happen. We also only briefly stopped at Pua'a Ka'a State Park to see the sea turtles and we saw them from a very highly elevated standpoint in the parking lot area. It would’ve been great to go down to the beach area. There was a lot of time in the van and a lot of stops at roadside stands. I would’ve rather eliminated most of those stops and spent more time at the black sand beaches and various waterfalls. I would’ve also have loved to learn more about the history of this area. Our tour guide was super friendly and safe, but we could’ve used more information about the land and history of Maui, and less personal or family stories.
Anthony was amazing! He was so kind with a great sense of humor. We couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide! Mahalo Anthony!
I’m going to share my thoughts and experiences in detail hoping it will help someone who is trying to decide whether to take the tour or drive yourself. The road is narrow and winding, but definitely very much drivable. There are many places you can stop/park your car along the road and in Hāna. You will have the freedom and opportunity to explore the things that interest you, and won’t have to waste your time for nothing. The tour: it serves the purpose of not driving ourselves. The tour guide was also the bus driver. We got picked up later than expected. There was almost none story telling from our tour guide for this one day tour. At each stop we were never told what time we were supposed to come back to the bus, so we had to check back at the bus often till everyone was there for the bus to leave. The only exception was at the ‘black sand beach’ state park, where one of our tourists fell and injured when she tried to get off the bus. Some other tour guide volunteered to help us. This very helpful guide had to ask our tour guide what time we should come back, and provided us with valuable information about the park, the only one time we got such information on the entire tour. The bus stopped three times in the morning at shopping places. The first time around 9am we all brought food and drinks, I guess everyone was starving by then, getting up 5:30 and didn’t have breakfast. We didn’t buy anything at the next two shopping place, as we didn’t want to eat any more banana bread and everything was pricey. We didn’t get any food or snacks or water from the tour guide till 2pm. I do not recommend this tour/tour guide.
Wow! Jason was amazing…a truly local born and raised in the area guide who shared so many great stories, local history, and legends that it kept our visit exciting and interesting. We visited highlighted areas plus he added some bonus stops with local fruit and chocolate stands. Get ready for the best banana bread you’ve had (don’t tell grandma we said that). He even sent us a list of his favorite spots for hanging out and eating after the tour. We wished this had been our first tour of the week since there were so many amazing recommendations. I bet we may just need to come back again! Additionally, he contacted us after the tour to let us know we left a pair of binoculars and offered to meet us on his day off to return them. Mahalo!
