The Musandam region, separated from the rest of Oman by the United Arab Emirates, is the northern most part of the Sultanate. The dramatic Musandam peninsula is perhaps one of the most scenically spectacular area in the Gulf. These spectacular fjords have given the area a second name "The Norway of Arabia”. The peninsula is mainly inhabited by the Shihuh, who are fishermen and herdsmen and are probably descended from the original inhabitants of northern Oman. Fishing is the peninsula's main industry with packing plants at al-Khasab and Bay'ah. Transportation is mostly by sea, since no roads cross the forbidding terrain. Musandam - Khasab is very close to United Arab Emirates and easily access able by road for guest from United Arab Emirates. It's a spectacular tour! The driver is very professional and helped us a lot with the immigration procedures. Once we arrived in Oman, the boat looked great with its traditional decor. The captain and crew were excellent and made us feel very comfortable. The food was delicious and plentiful. We would definitely do it again!

This day-trip was magical, well organised and a day to remember. The water was beautiful, dolphins swam alongside the boat and the food was lovely. However, unwanted attention began early in the day, with mentions of holding hands with the driver and presenting my passport to border control as “the driver’s girl”. This ramped up on the boat when, while trying to go down the ladder into the sea, I was “showered” (my chest was sprayed with a hose), many comments were made about my appearance and my marital status and one crew member got into his underwear, got into the water and took me by the hand, pulling my body so it was alongside his. I was extremely uncomfortable and said I was cold so I could go back but he continued to pull me around. I understand that some of this may be cultural and meant in kindness but solo female travellers join organised tours for safety in numbers and to avoid this kind of behaviour. I wanted to learn about a new place and experience a different culture; I was not there to discuss my love life. It was so relentless that strangers were asking if I was OK and one couple invited me to sit with them in an attempt to rescue me. I took a taxi back to my accommodation from the centre of Dubai. It ruined the day.
