View on Google MapsThere aren’t enough stars to rate this excursion. Elsa and Carlos are fantastic hosts. Carlos picked us up at our hotel, and guided us through the local markets to pick up our feast ingredients, while Elsa led us on a gastronomic masterpiece in their charming home. Sopes, tamales, chili rellenos, enchiladas and taquitos are all on the menu, as well as the salsas and guacamole to go along side. The highlight of my trip!
We did the market tour and cooking class. Carlos is very informative for Zihuatanejo history. Preparation and instruction of traditional meals in a lovely setting. Elsa is very organized and shared the recipes of the dishes we prepared. Bring an appetite! Many dishes were made.
This experience is one you must do! Carlos and his wife Elsa are incredible hosts, starting with a tour of the market and the history of some of the vendors followed by an incredible Mexican food cooking class in the privacy of their home, where you end up eating everything that you made. It’s like hanging out in a friend’s home and just enjoying food and conversation. You absolutely regret not enjoying this experience in your visit to Zihua!

Carlos picked us up and gave us a wonderful shopping tour of everyday life. Then on to his beautiful home where Elsa graciously instructed us in the excellent home style cooking of the generations of her family. Among the many dishes we learned to prepare, making enchilada sauce from scratch was incredible! My husband says he is now spoiled and may never be able to eat in a restaurant again!
Carlos y Elisa are both talented & friendly communicators who provided an excellent, personalized introduction to Mexican cuisine. The morning started with a comprehensive, inside tour of the local market where we learned names of required foods/seasonings & what to purchase should we want to later on. The class moved to their lovely home kitchen where all of us leaned cooking techniques, serving & traditional receipes. We even got a garden tour ! Excellent
We really enjoyed our time with Carlos and Elsa. Carlos picked us up at our hotel, and drove us to Zihuatanejo for a walking tour of a fascinating local market where Carlos seemed to know half the merchants and could explain the many local foods and products to us. We then drove to their lovely home where we were welcomed like family for the cooking portion of the experience. Elsa is a warm host and an excellent cook and teacher. She guided us through the preparation and cooking of some excellent Mexican dishes, culminating in a meal of those dishes with beverages supplied. Carlos then drove us back to our hotel. We felt we had a brief cultural immersion into life with a Mexican family and how food is prepared for that family. We then received a number of e-mailed photos of the day from both Elsa and Carlos, photos which bring back the memories of a great experience.
This was really fun. Carlos picked us up at our hotel and his wife, Elsa, runs the class at their beautiful home. They're both pleasant people and Elsa is a very talented cook. We fixed chili rellenos, taquitos, tamales, enchiladas, sopes, refried beans, guacamole and salsa. We had a group of six family members, and everyone loved the class.
We had a lovely time in the cooking class. The food was amazing. Elsa was a wonderful instructor. The class felt like you were at home cooking with family.
Best day in Zihua! Carlos picked us up at our hotel and drove us downtown to the Mercado. He showed us so much and explained everything so well. Walking through with a narrator explaining things was so much better than just walking through by ourselves. After purchasing some ingredients for our day he drove us to their lovely home. We spent several hours with Elsa making some of the best Mexican dishes. We made Jamaica, sopes, tamales, shrimp chili rellanos, taquitos, enchiladas, guacamole, and tortilla chips. The fresh ingredients, and wonderful instruction made for a memorable day. Don’t eat before you go…you will be so sad if you are too full to try everything.
Awesome authentic experience! We loved going to the market with Carlos and getting to learn from Elsa inside their home. They are a lovely couple! We loved Zihuatanejo and this day was really special. Delicious food!
