View on Google MapsOur guide Alex was.incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Guanajuato and all of Mexico. He shared how the culture, architecture, and history are interwoven. The mine was very interesting and the hacienda was beautiful. We moved at a fairly slow pace allowing us to enjoy the day and learn a lot.
Alex knows so much about the history of Guanajuato and Mexico in general. We stopped many places to look and learn.
Alex did a great job. He has an architect background and showed us periodic homes of various countries’ designs in the course of our travels. He has a great mind for history both in sharing information and answering all our questions. We saw the hilltop monument, drove through and learned about the tunnels, and went up to what was once the biggest silver mine in the world, producing 60% of the world’s output. Our driver Tobias did great navigating the narrow streets. Comfortable van.

We both enjoyed the tour very much and the depth of knowledge our guide had to share. We learned a lot about Guanajuato and the history of the area. I would certainly recommend this tour to anyone who was considering it.
Guanajuato is a fantastic place to visit, so rich in history and so full of nightlife. It's really a must-do in Mexico. We had a guided tour arranged by Estigo. We were met by our guide, Alejandro, and driver Javier in the morning, right at our hotel. I don't recall if this was supposed to be a "private" tour, but it was just us. The van was clean, very comfortable and the driver was appropriately cautious. We drove through many of the tunnels that flow beneath the city. The history and development of them is a whole tour on its own. Alejandro is a gem of a guide! Formerly an architect, he was steeped in the history of everything we saw and had lots of interesting stories about the architecture and development of everything we looked at. My partner was a little worried about descending into the "mine shaft." But it's not an active mine and is clearly safe, well lit and really interesting! It's fascinating to see these operations that were literally started 500 years ago! As for Estigo, you will find so many operators in Mexico, but Estigo is great! Communications are steady and clear, any issues were quickly resolved. Prices are competitive and the service is great. Don't think twice!
This tour is what I wish all tours were like.. First.. you have to have a private tour.. nothing better than an exclusive view of the sights and history.. Next, you have to have someone who has studied the history of your attraction as your guide.. Bonus points if your guide has a great personality, very friendly and helpful. Alex was all of this and more... As a man who studied Architecture and History academically, he brings an experienced and very detailed view of your tour.. Enjoy.. tours like this are very rare.. This one checks all of the boxes...
We struggled to find guided tours in English, and found this one in TripAdvisor, at first sight it may look a bit expensive but you get 5 star service all the time, Roberto our tour guides have a really good English and lots lots of history knowledge, this was the best option worth the price
Martin our tour guide was our favorite part of the tour, he could tell a great history story with dates, ghosts & drama. This tour is the only way to appreciate the uniqueness of Guanajuato,
Alex picked us up close to our hotel. Started with the roads underground and explained how they came about. Drove around old town and he explained the areas and who used to live in the houses. Next, up to the top of the mountain to see how the city was laid out and what the churches, opera house and schools looked like from high up. Toured a beautiful hacienda and grounds. Learned about the Spaniards using the Indians as slaves in the mines. Went to an old mine and walked down into the interior to see veins of gold and silver. Alex explained how hard the Indians had to work and also had to load all the tailings onto their backs and crawl/walk out. They didn’t live a happy, carefree life…..also didn’t live too long. Alex did a great job and would definitely recommend him.
We had a great tour with Roberto! He was very knowledgeable of Mexico history as well as Guanajuato’s history. We saw a great deal-mines, tunnels and subterranean roads. Driving around the city and seeing places we wouldn’t have gotten to by walking was a real plus.
