View on Google MapsGuachimontones is a must see for anyone interested in Mesoamerican archaeology. Courses taught outside MEX tend to not mention this pre Incan Aztecan and Mayan civilization that shows many of the elements present in those later cultures. Pyramids (albeit round),ball courts, agriculture and a spiritual life This culture left no written language like many sophisticated indigenous cultures throughout the world. Our guide from Koyote Tours. name of Jesus. was a fabulous interpreter of modern Guadalajara and area as well as exhibiting an understanding and appreciation of his ancestral culture. 12/10 for this tour.
Our tour guide Christopher took us to the Guachimontones site, relatively easy to get to from Guadalajara. The site has the unique circular shape with broad staircases, originally built for worship of the wind god. The museum offers more info on the Teuchitlán culture. You have stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Less crowded! A lesser known archeological gem!

By coincidence, we had the great fortune of using the services of our guide Jesus again. He’s super reliable, relaxed, attentive, and knowledgeable. Guachimontones is a must see place especially if you’re into archeological sites. The circular mounds are unique and ball court is impressive. Although small, the onsite museum is very informative as is the introductory film and the views of the surrounding area is beautiful.
My guide Jesus was amazing; he was able to tell me a lot about the history as well as to personalize the experience for me. The site was really beautiful; incredible history and energy and truly beautiful place
Great tour, Juan Pablo was a great tour guide. He allowed us to take our time and see everything in our own time. Had a great time. Highly recommended.
Amazing experience provided by Jesús Salas. Extremely knowledgeable and punctual. He seemed more like an old friend with his laidback personality and sense of humor. We could not have asked for a better guide. Guachimontones and the Don Valente distillery surpassed my expectations because of Jesús. Along with the carnitas from the restaurant he brought us to. “Muchas gracias, mi amigo”
Timely pick-up & drop-off, informative interpretation centre, good tour of historical site with comprehensive information on the significance of the ceremonies, building structures and significance of the ball courts. Great lunch.
We were picked up by a wonderful man named Lalo. He took my husband and I to Guachumintones in his own vehicle! We went at our own pace, made stops for snacks, and explored the ruins and the city nearby! It was fantastic! I’ve never had my own private chauffeur before, that’s what this experience was. Wonderful experience, would highly recommend!
Jesus was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable and took his time to explain things at Guachimontones. He showed us around other sites, local restaurants and shops. Good driver and excellent company.
This was a great tour! It was so fascinating learning about this undiscovered civilization. Mauricio was very informative.
