View on Google MapsTed did an excellent job despite the extreme cold and wind. I loved hearing the stories of everyday folks trying their best to stay safe and their courageous efforts to assist. We were sorry the weather was so cold.
Entertaining, informative tour of Gettysburg. Our guide was Brad G. who engaged us with stories/ accounts and thought provoking questions about what to do in the given situation (hint: there are no wrong answers) that pull you into the situation. I highly recommend taking this tour after the Citizen Experience to cover more of Gettysburg and get accounts from both the townspeople and the soldiers who fought.
I've taken many walking tours and have enjoyed all of them. My tour with guide Bill Hartman was top tier. Bill thoughtfully uses buildings lining a very doable walk up and back along a few blocks on Baltimore Street, and an album of old photos of people and buildings, to give folks a feeling of the dynamic events that were affecting people who lived along those streets during the July 1-3 fighting. Bill conveys vignettes involving citizens interacting with soldiers and involving soldier combatants interacting with each other (not in a friendly way). One comes away with a feeling of what it must have felt like for citizens to have confronted the choice to stay to protect property or to go to protect life -- or to have some members of a family go and not others -- even the challenge of deciding where it might be safe to go, this farm or that one? One feels for a wife and mother who must chase a sharpshooter out of the house when he is trying to get up the stairs to and use a high floor for shooting, which would make the house a target. One can imagine what it must have been like for a family to watch a young woman in their home blown up as she was trying to make bread for some soldiers. Bill's stories are not sappy or melodramatic. They capture the energy and dynamism in what was happening and are not mere recitations of facts to be forgotten in a day or two. Those stories give about as good a sense of what was happening for those three sorry days of fighting in the midst of civilians and civil society as is possible in a tour of an hour or a little more. And then there was the unplanned stop in the sculpture studio of the last living sculptor of the monuments on the Gettysburg battlefield, who was working on a huge memorial to be placed up in New York. It was wonderful to talk with him about what he does. A wonderful something extra at the end of a wonderful tour.

Great tour that expands on the fighting leading up to the battle on the hill. Lots of insight into what happened to the people of Gettysburg and how they weathered the historic battle.
We enjoyed a detailed description of the events that took place on the streets of Gettysburg. Our tour guide brought attention to many details of signs of the war that we never noticed before. It was extremely interesting.
More excellence This was the afternoon tour we did as a follow-up to the civilian experience Brenda our guide. It was just us my sister myself and brenda. Brenda was very accommodating as I have some mobility issues. She took her time and asked me if I needed a break from time to time. The tour was a great learning experience, and Brenda did an excellent job. I highly recommend taking both the civilian experience and this tour back to back.
Our guide, Rosanne, was amazing. She was informative and entertaining. She is very knowledgeable about the history and the area.
We had a fantastic time... lots of interesting stories and the guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We would go on this tour again.
Very interactive and informative walk-through downtown area Presented the township perspective of the battle.
