View on Google MapsWe spent three incredible days in Selous Game Reserve, where our knowledgeable guide, Endrick, made the experience unforgettable. We cruised the Rufiji River, spotting hippos, and a variety of water birds amidst lush vegetation. In the Miombo woodlands, we explored dense forests home to elephants, gnus, lions, zebras, leopards and wild dogs. After Selous, we spent two days in Mikumi National Park, enjoying the vast plains filled with elephants, giraffes, and lions. The diversity of wildlife and plant life in both reserves was awe-inspiring. The wonderful service and seamless tour arrangements made this journey truly exceptional, leaving us with lasting memories of Tanzania’s wilderness.
Our safari in Tanzania was truly unforgettable, thanks to our amazing guide, Juma. We began in Selous, where Juma’s expertise helped us spot zebras, elephants, lions, wild dogs, and hippos, followed by peaceful boat rides along the Rufiji River. Mikumi’s vast plains brought incredible encounters with lions, elephants, buffaloes, different antelope species and giraffes, while Ruaha’s rugged beauty offered unforgettable moments, including lion hunts and elephants crossing rivers. Juma’s passion, knowledge, and care made this experience extraordinary. If you're looking for a life-changing safari, we highly recommend Juma. It was an adventure we will cherish forever.

Our camping safari was an unforgettable adventure, fully immersed in nature. We camped under the stars, with Otto as our driver and guide, expertly navigating the park and showing us the best wildlife. Musa, our cook, prepared delicious meals over the campfire, adding to the authenticity of the experience. A highlight was a thrilling boating safari along the Rufiji River, where we saw hippos, and birdlife up close. The peaceful sounds of the bush surrounded us as we enjoyed each day. Evenings were spent around the campfire, reflecting on the day's adventures. The experience was a perfect blend of excitement and tranquility, leaving us with memories that will last a lifetime.
What an experience. Our guide Endrick was a fantastic tour guide. Everything was very well arranged. We are grateful for all the wonderful moments we have experienced.
Selous is underrated as from our experience it has all the hallmarks of what it takes to rival Serengeti and Ngorongoro in terms of spectacular landscapes of both land and water, diversity of wildlife and birdlife found in the park and above all it well preserved and still pristine as its not been overly commercialized as a destination. Our time there with guide Musa was fascinating and so memorable. We enjoyed the game drives, both on land and along Rufiji River, we also did sport fishing and also went on a walking safari. I almost forgot to include the night safari that we did with an armed guard. We did a mix of camps and lodges, and it was really exciting to experience nature so intimately. Food was especially very tasty during the trip. If I were to change anything about this trip would be increase the number of days in Selous because it is a magical place. A huge thank you, to Rama and your team for the excellent time on the safari.
A totally amazing experience. This is definitely one of our best outings to Africa and I am happy that we chose the southern Tanzania parks because they are no crowds here. Juma was really great as a guide, well mannered, knowledgeable and very charming. He treated everyone with respect and my boys took to him immediately we met him in our hotel in Dar. The main difference of these parks from those in the northern circuit, is their pristine and unspoilt conditions. The animals are numerous and when you come across an interesting sight, there are no crowds. The lodges were vey nice with great service in absolutely stunning locations that are unbelievably beautiful.
We had the most incredible experience on safari in Tanzania. The safari was packed with interesting wildlife encounters in some of the most beautiful landscapes we have ever been to. Selous is different from the parks in the northern circuit. Its well preserved, has very ew visitors and has a wide variety of habitats in this huge reserve. We even did fishing and had a nice boat safari on the Rufiji River. Mikumi was also quite interesting with lots of wildlife and also characterized by low numbers of tourists. I would not do this trip justice if I do not mention our guide Ibrahim. He went out of his way to ensure that we enjoyed ourselves and also drove the safari jeep perfectly. I appreciate the great organization by Ramadhani the director Gecko for making sure everything was well planned for and also for the reasonable charges. I highly recommend Gecko Adventure Tanzania.
I wish we had done this trip earlier because it has been totally overwhelming and splendid beyond what we had imagined it to be. Mikumi and Selous are really beautiful, pristine and away from the crowds. We got to experience the wildlife and sceneries in their natural state without much interference from man. Otto is a seasoned guide who is great company and knowledgeable about the parks. He often knew where we would find the wildlife and being the rainy season the animals have migrated further from the rivers and water points. A boat ride along River Rufiji was awesome! We loved the accommodations, especially Rufiji River Lodge was special! Kudos to Ramadhan and Otto for the wonderful time
This trip to Tanzania has been an adventure of epic proportions and we have created wonderful memories that will last for a very long time. I will start with the outstanding quality of service from the moment we land in Julius Nyerere Airport in Dar. Our pcikup was timely and we were whisked to our hotel to rejuvenate after the long flight with 2 lay overs. Our guide Otto is a special one! So experienced as a safari guide and a wonderful person to be around. We instantly took to his warm personality and so knowledgeable on a diverse range of topic from wildlife, nature, history, culture, politics and life in general. He is a great driver who comfortably maneuvered the 4x4 Landcruiser through the roads and the parks. He went over and beyond to ensure that we were safe, comfortable and enjoying the trip. Wildlife encounters with Otto were much more than seeing them, he took his time to teach us about their habits, lifespan and so much about them. Otto's knowledge of the parks made the game drives interesting and fun as we could not run out nice things see. We appreciate the excellent lodges which made the experience awesome. We were particularly wowed by the Rufiji River Camp in Selous for its postcard beauty and top class service. We would definitely get used to this royalty treat
My family and friends have just returned home from an excellet trip to Selous and Mikumi National Park. We recommend booking a trip with Gecko Adventure Tanzania 100% and if you are lucky to be partnered with guide Otto, you are bound to enjoy the ride. Otto was amazing, very knowledgeable and passionate about Tanzania and conservation of the ecosystems. The surreal sunset at theend of our boat ride on river Rufiji with hippos in the water, elephants and giraffes on the shores. Game drives were action filled, Otto focused on finding all the animals that were on a wishlist. He also spotted lots of birdlife and being avid birdying enthuthiasts it was so thrilling. Overall the experience was 100% perfect and we loved it.
