View on Google MapsI had an absolutely fantastic experience on the market shopping and food tour in Dakar. Abdoulaye was incredibly engaging and explained everything clearly, which made the experience both fun and informative. The tour focuses mostly on shopping through the markets, with one stop for lunch. You’re served three full plates of food, which was honestly more than I could finish — but everything was delicious and a great introduction to local cuisine. One thing I really appreciated was how well organized everything was. You will meet up with a market shopper who is honest and transparent. I’d recommend keeping track of item prices since things can add up quickly. You can make a final payment for all your market items by card at the end of the walkabout (with the fee added), which is very convenient if you don’t mind that extra cost. Some additional details that may be helpful: the tour is nearly a full day, starting in the morning and going through the late afternoon. It’s a private tour — just your party (I was traveling solo), Abdoulaye, and the driver, who stays with the car. The car was clean, comfortable, and made getting around very easy. If you need cash, you can also ask to stop at an ATM. On a more personal note, I was especially happy to have met Abdoulaye. He truly went above and beyond and took extra care of me throughout the day, which made the experience even more special. I genuinely look forward to crossing paths with him again the next time I’m in Dakar. Highly recommended! ~Traveling as a solo female and felt completely safe.

Fantastic experience with Pape. We saw different sides of the city, learnt about the history and culture, and ate (lots!) of delicious local food. Would highly recommend!
Pape, our tour guide and new friend made this trip amazing. We had a fun time touring the African markets, everything from regular stores to stalls where you haggle the price of everything. These people bargain hard! After a solid period of time shopping, we went to a beautiful seafood restaurant on the beach, with some of the best fish I've ever had. I've only been gone from Senegal a few days and I already miss it. If you ever go to Senegal ask Pape to clear his schedule and take you everywhere. He will make your trip unforgettable.
Headed to Senegal I thought Youssou N'Dour was the king of Dakar, but once we arrived I realized it might be Pape from Visit Senegal. We did two tours with him during our trip and they were great. Pape knows so many people and is so well connected he can pretty much accommodate any request you may have or arrange any kind of experience. The Dakar City Tour is the perfect way to get your bearings at the beginning of your trip and introduces the different parts of the city well. Goree Island is a must do as well, and Pape's approach of doing the tour backwards helps you miss the crowds. On our first day we told him that we were interested in eating local food and he switched things up on the fly so we could do lunch at a local market and try all the different dishes, he also built in a stop before our Goree tour for us to grab some street breakfast by the ferry. Highly recommend booking with these guys if you're headed to Senegal.
