View on Google MapsWe were on the 2 day rainbow mountain trip and it was from start to finish just a perfect experience - and one of the best things about it was our guide Edwin Salas Huillca; not just a knowledgable and very nice person, but a truly inspiring human being.
My husband and I had an amazing experience trekking to Ausangate Mountain Pass and Rainbow Mountain. The views were absolutely stunning, with breathtaking landscapes at every turn. Our guide was not only knowledgeable but also friendly and accommodating, making us feel like part of the family. The entire staff was welcoming and ensured our comfort throughout the journey. It was a little bit challenging but rewarding trek, and we highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to explore Peru's natural beauty.
Gio, Adriel, Celso and Fidel took excellent care of us on this intensive two day adventure. If you are short on time, this is incredible bang for your buck in terms of exploration, beauty, and depth of experience in a short amount of time. DO follow packing instructions! I almost didn’t bring gloves and that would have been a huge mistake. It’s rugged out there. We got to Rainbow Mountain before the crowds (it was an aggressive AM itinerary, but worth it), and had a super magical half hour to ourselves with the sun and the glittering frost. Gio did a great job documenting our trip with photos. Food was great. This is not an outing for the faint of heart or those lacking in fitness (and patience!). I am relatively fit and my friend is super fit, and it was a real mental game to overcome the altitude. I have never walked so slow in my life. But, just take it one step at a time, big picture it was all worth it.
The 2 day trek to rainbow mountain was amazing! It was great to see this terrain compared to the Sakantay trek we did before. Well worth adding this to our itinerary. The mountain ranges were so colorful and beautiful. It was great to be on the mountain before anyone else and well worth taking the journey. Our guide Bernie was remarkable! He was so much fun, took great care of us, tended to all of your needs even when I had a medical concern. He provided cultural and historical education which made the journey even more valuable. He helped us get all of the good pictures at rainbow mountain which I really appreciate. I would highly recommend taking this trek with Bernie! He made the trip even more amazing! The food was soooo good! It was prepared well, on time, warm and was delicious! We never got sick and always had clean water for us. They also provided tea time which was a sweet thing. The accommodations were a cozy tent that they had set up for us with a nice warm sleeping bag, pillow and blankets so we were very comfortable on a chilly night. Our bags were always on time and where they needed to be. The driver was safe and great!
Bernie was an excellent guide, came to visit the hotel the night before for the trip to give the duffel bag and get all the information that we needed. Bernie was an excellent guide from start to finish
I booked a solo 2-day hike to Rainbow mountain with FlashpackerConnect. My tour guide was Bekker. The whole experience was amazing. Booking was easy, the pre-hike meeting was informative and quick, the pickup was on time and so was the drive. Bekker and I drove up with the cook and the camping setup guy. They were all so nice and helpful. The food was so tasty, the sleeping tent was actually so warm and comfortable. The hikes were BEAUTIFUL. There were so many alpacas everywhere, the colours were stunning. It was a little cold (bring warm clothes!) but the sun helped it warm up at certain times of the day. Bekker was also very motivating and helpful. The altitude can be rough so we took it slow and completed all the viewpoints. Bekker is also a great photographer! This felt like the cherry on top of an already good hiking trip. Highly recommend this trip.
I had no business booking this tour because of the difficulty level - but I'm glad I did it with Flashpacker Connect! It was a very hard trek because of high altitude and I quickly discovered that I'm not fit enough to hike for hours at 4000+ feet! That being said, our guide Ricardo, driver Julio, cook Cristobal, and "horseman" Marcelina were amazing and they're the reason I made it to the Ausangate Glacier, the overnight campsite, and up to Rainbow Mountain. Together, they made sure our party of 2 were okay during the long hike, that we were nourished, and that we were comfortable. We were given alternatives to change our hike itinerary which I appreciated given our reaction to the high altitude. Despite our personal physical challenges, we had a lot of fun with our group! If I were to do another trek, I'd ask for the exact same team. It's not every day you're asked to dance in front of a glacier with whipping winds (we happy obliged!). The Rainbow Mountain route on this tour is off the beaten track that most 1-day tourists take - so you get a pretty awesome (and private) hike until you reach the crowded area right near the top. I highly recommend Flashpacker if you want to book a small/private trek. Their attention to detail and the care that the staff take is worth it! I cannot credit or thank this team enough! I reallly love my experience! Our guide was so present and generous! we all had altitude sickness and he was there for us! Helping, giving us tisane! Best trip of my life! I strongly recommend you ask for : Joaquin for guide
We had a wonderful 2 day trek with Joaquin our guide from Flashpackers. Joaquin was knowledgeable, caring, friendly and very detail oriented. He met with us the evening before the trek to explain what we needed to bring and to brief us on what to expect in the hike. We rented walking sticks and he brought us duffle bags to pack extra stuff which we wouldn't need to carry ourself. We had a cute tent and warm sleeping bags, delicious cooked meals. Joaquin brought oxygen for altitude sickness and we had coco tea provided. He was a great guide, and would definitely recommend Joaquin. Would love to have him as a guide for another hike. thank you for the wonderful experience 😊 🙏
I booked a 2 day tour to Ausangate & Rainbow mountain with Joaquin. Let me start first with the organisation, he came the night before to brief us on the trekk, bring us trekking poles and duffle bags to bring our extra belongings. Such a sweet attention! The trekk included our camping site , food, drinks and oxygen tanks. The food itself is bound out of restaurant made by some local chefs from the Andes, i was not expecting such amazing good on a camping trip. During the hike we got altitiude sickness and Joaquin was present with the coca leafs and of course oxygen tanks when needed. He helped us find some horses and really motivated us the whole time. Honestly, if ever you choose Flash Packer, request Joaquin because he honestly has become a friend and can’t wait to trekk another mountain with him. The best!!
