View on Google MapsOutstanding excursion! We started our adventure with a trip to pyramids in Tucume. It was worth the 1hr ride through rural terrain, as the 15min walk to the excavated site from the parking lot was full of native wildlife (many different breeds of colorful birds, foxes, lizards, owls, etc). The excavated pyramid showed remnants of ornate decorations, a kitchen, living quarters, a hitching post (for llamas I assume), and other spots of interest. There is also a valley overview area, which I recommend visiting (it was optional for us). A sprawling view of the valley shows many additional pyramids, most of which are still not excavated. The next stop on our journey was a visit to the Royal Tombs of Sipan museum. This museum contains relics that have been recovered from the pyramids in Tecume, along with other local locations in the area. There are so many different armor sets, lots of jewelry, pottery, and the tomb of the king itself which is magnificent. It has been completely excavated, showing how the king and his family are arranged within the tomb, long with the guards and other objects that go with the king to his afterlife. We spent about 2hrs in there, and it was worth every second. Lastly, we visited Lambayeque, the previous capitol of the region. We visited the town's cathedral, which is a site to behold. I don't recall the exact details, but outside of the cathedral was the remnants of three other churches...I think one was for the local town leaders and higher-ups, one for middle class folk, and one for the less fortunate. All of the older three have a story of their own, as they were not built as the same time. Additionally, there is a story regarding the local 'statue of liberty', which was erected and tied to a neat story about the declaration of independence from Spain. My wife and I went on three excursions during our visit to Chiclayo...this was our favorite by far. Highly recommended.
We did two trips with RUNA Turismo. We had the pleasure of having Julio as our guide and Elmer as the driver both days. Professional and pleasant. Julio is well educated and speaks fluent English. He explained well what we saw, and took the time to allow us to discover the details as well as connecting the big picture. Also, he is a good bird-watcher, and we got the opportunity to experience the flying wildlife as well. Lot's of photo-opportunities. The tours are a good balance of archeological sites, museums and nature. Could not have found a better tour provider in Chiclayo!
Excellent excursion. Very dedicated and attentive in teaching and publicizing ancestral cultures. The Guide took great care of those little details that make a difference. Runa tours is a very good agency.
The museum was awesome and our guide was very knowledgeable, which added to our overall experience. The pyramids were amazing!!!
The guide and driver were incredible. I have issue with the tour agency. We booked 2 separate tours with them for Friday and Saturday. Early Friday morning we were told there were not enough people for the tour unless we were willing to pay $23 more for a private tour. We agreed since our options were limited. ASI said, the guide spoke good English and was very informative. We arranged for pickup the following morning. Later that day we were asked for the tour office if we had paid the guide the additional money. I said no because no one instructed us to do so. She asked us to paid the guide the next day. No problem. At 9 pm I received a text saying there were not enough people for today’s tour but they were willing to go out for an additional $23. I declined and asked for a refund, which they promptly gave me. This morning I received an early text telling me they would come by my Airbnb for the remaking $ at 9. At 9:20 someone arrived and texted me she was waiting downstairs and that I needed to have exact change. We have been in Peru for 5 weeks and have booked multiple tours . Tour agencies provide a service. I would not book with this agency again.
It was good, except that there is a lot of sun, there is not much information and more than anything it is something for people who like to walk a lot. I do not recommend going at midday, and if you go take a lot of water and protection from the sun, it is preferable to go in March and April that told me that there is more pleasant weather
Unique opportunity to visit another Peru. Monumental Lord of Sipan! Huaca Rajada the big surprise! Great Museums. Great gastronomy
This is a great tour. The guide is extremely knowledgeable and very personable. There aren’t many English tours and this is one you should take. The Sican Museum and Tucume Pyramids are amazing. There is also a little nature walk to look for animals. The tour ends with him sharing the history and a few sights in Lambayeque.
Excellent service, punctuality, comfort and dedicated attention from the guide, allows you to fully enjoy the full day. I recommend it!
This tour is one of the best in Peru! The guide, Julio, is knowledgeable, friendly, flexible and speaks excellent English. I learned a lot through this tour. It's hard to find the English tour with this price in northern Peru that is not popular for international travellers like southern peru. I high recommend to visit Chiclayo and join the tour!
