Chefchaouen, Morocco
View on Google MapsIt's been great. A 3 day hike and what kind of one. Great remote villages seen, paths all to yourself. Hostels in the middle of the mountains. Worth every penny to us. Ali and Muhammad were also great guides. Overall definitely recommended.
We had an excellent time with our local guide who met us at our accommodation at the time we booked. We started walking straight from town of Chefchaouen into the mountains. Our guide spoke great English and was very informative. He is a local and showed us his home village. The places we stayed were cozy and the food was very delicious. The mountains itself are breathtaking. Overall a great three days of walking experiencing both the culture of the mountain villages and the natural beauty of the mountains and river. We even got to see the Berber macaques!
Very nice! We had three fantastic days with Rubio. He adapted quickly to our preferred pace and we had a really nice start to our tour. He provided a lot of interesting information and deep insights to the landscape and the living of the people in the area we where hiking - plus the moroccan culture. The more you know - the more you will see. This made this hike very special to us and we will never forget this. - And not to forget - he is a very kind and experienced guide who took care of us and we always felt save but never restricted. Superb! We fully recommend hikingwithrubio and hope to do this again one day1
Our three day hiking tour with Chefchaouen Adventures was amazing! A beautiful hiking experience in the Rif mountains. Although high temperatures , it was worth it all the way. Our guide Mohamad Rubio made it even more special. So kind and knowledgeable about the surroundings, he added much to the experience. And the food of Saida in Afaska :)
This was an incredible hike through the remote Rif mountains, through many different micro climates, up and over ridgelines, and along deep canyons. We saw several troupes of monkeys, fresh snow amongst towering pines, and endless vistas punctuated occasionally by Berber villages. We especially appreciated that we started the hike directly from the Chefchaouen medina. The inns along the way were simple and rustic with piles of warm blankets and surprisingly hot showers. The food in Akchour was good but in Affaska the dinner and breakfast were exceptional. Our guide, Najib, was helpful and happy to answer questions. He was unobtrusive and let us enjoy the hike by ourselves when we wanted to. Booking information beforehand was a bit sparse, so be sure to ask whatever questions via Whatsapp you need. We kept track of some approximate information to help: First day is 12 miles, 1200 meters up then 600 meters down. Took us 7 hours. Second day: 9.5 miles, a little bit of uphill 600 meters down, 5.5 hours. Last day was very chill, 4 hours of hiking with not a lot of up or down, though you can do more if you'd like. We did the hike with our 8 year old and she didn't have a problem, though she is a pretty accomplished hiker.
Well organized by Ines Friendly driver Medhi and perfect guide Ibrahim. Spicy but beautiful experience and fun authentic overnight stays
It was a great trek with Chefchaouen Adventures. Booking and communication was clear and and easy. My guide, Yassine, was excellent. Friendly, knowledgeable, and super fun. The trip was a really beautiful experience in the Rif Mountains through fields and villages, ending at the gorgeous area of the Akchour Waterfall. Accommodation in rural guesthouses was simple and clean. The home-cooking each night was definitely a highlight! Its a beautiful area, and best experienced on foot walking the historic donkey trails and village paths of northern Morocco.
This hike was a highlight of our trip to Morocco. You not only immerse yourself in the magnificent landscape of the Rif Mountains, but also in the lives of the people who live there. Our mountain guide told us a lot about the history, the plant and animal world (we actually saw monkeys) and the traditional way of life and was a pleasant and smart conversation partner at all. We could visit the falls and the bridge of God in the pleasantly quiet morning hours, when the magic of this place is still really noticeable. The food on the way was absolutely great. What you should know beforehand: 1. you need physical fitness to handle the 1400 meters of altitude of the first day, 2. the accommodations are really very simple (a cabin sleeping bag was helpful).
An amazing trek. Our guide, Yassine, was extremely friendly, helpful and professional. The route taken would not have been possible without him. The food was an absolute highlight. Highly recommend.
