View on Google MapsIt was a long day but well worth it. Our guide and driver Alfonso was very knowledgeable and we had lots of interesting discussions about the sites and also Mexica in general. This made the 4 hour car journey pass much more quickly. He was also an excellent driver - especially in heavy rain on our return. Our English speaking guide was also extremely informative.
We took the tour to Calakmul from Campeche. Then we toured the Rio Bec sites (Chicanna, Becan and Xpujil) with the subsequent visit to the 20th of November Community where you will visit some craft workshops (working with seeds, honey and wood). Then we took the transport from Xpujil to Campeche stopping at the site of Balamku. The 3 guides (Roberto in Calakmul, Ángel in Río Nec and Manuel in Balamku) very friendly and knowledgeable, especially of local fauna and flora. We stayed 2 nights at Casa Maran hotel in Xpujil which is clean but very basic. The rooms have no light and natural ventilation but are very spacious. The vehicles to go from Campeche to Xpujil very good, the only one but we put is that the driver in the transfer Xpujil / Campeche brought from “co pilot” a companion who also showed no consideration (arrived approximately 40 minutes late the car, was his companion in the co-pilot seat and did not ask if anyone wanted to sit in that place or if those behind her had enough space, had the seat traveled until the back )

We started our tour from Campeche early in the morning and we come back early evening, so it was a long day. Nevertheless we enjoyed the tour. Good experience.
The drivers and guide were great: professional and friendly. Calakmul had many impressive buildings and the view from the highest was truly awesome, like being in an airplane. We did not see many animals, except 2-3 Tapirs feeding in a small pond, and we were able to watch them for awhile. It does require many hours of driving, sometimes in traffic or roadwork, but the drive is nice. Viator was my only option to get there and I tried many times, so was glad for them. Only stressful part was when they sent an email the night before telling me they did not know where to pick me up. I had no way to get back to them and had previously told them my hotel and got a reply they would pick me up there, so I was worried, but, someone did show up as scheduled and the day went as planned. Not the best communication there, but no harm done
You explore the area in a very pleasant small group and not only get information about the Mayan site but also about the flora and fauna. We were treated individually. We climbed 4 pyramids and never felt like we had to rush. The drive from the "entrance" to the actual site is also very long. We were glad that we didn't have to drive ourselves.
Amazing tour to Calakmul from Casa Ka'an (Xpujil). The view from the pyramids is so impressive. We climbed 3 pyramids, which means, you have to climb approximatly 50 floors by staircase. We highly recommend to do this tour, because nobody knows how long you have the possibility to climb the pyramids and it is definitly a highlight of each Yucatan trip. Ka'an Expeditions is very professional and I can recommend them to everybody. We also did the jungle tour with them and stayed at their hotel (Casa Ka'an).
The guide was very attentive and knowledgeable, the experience was incredible except for the horrible traffic on the Mayan train, a whole day in traffic but once in Calakmul you forget everything, the views are impressive.
We had a little inconvenience because they forgot to pick us up, we were actually at a campsite inside the jungle, but on the way home kaan, about 5 km further inside the jungle. However, when we managed to call (there was no network in our campsite and we walked towards the Kaan house) they managed to resolve the situation promptly. The guide was fantastic and the lunch provided was also pleasant. Highly recommended.
Visiting Calakmul was a goal we had and we were finally able to do it with the best company. The tour was much more than we expected. Excellent drivers Carlos and Samuel and we were lucky to have the best guide Toño, if you book with them make sure that Toño can accompany you on your visit. Everyone was very attentive and the surprise of the picnic was very pleasant. It is truly worth doing this tour.
We had a wonderful tour with Bianca and Samuel, the driver. The view across the jungle from the top of the ruins (30 miles of green in all directions) will stay with us for life. We were a family of 5 and our youngest , aged 7, made it to the top of the ruins. Bianca was insightful and energetic and her English is perfect. Three howler monkeys showed up in the canopy just as we were about to leave. I fully recommend this tour. John Hayes, London.
