Av. Colombia #2-72, Normandia Sebastian de Belalcazar, Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia
View on Google MapsThis birding tour was great! It was a pleasant flat area to walk around and see a variety of bird in an urban setting. My guide, Carolina was very knowledgeable and helped to describe details of different species. I was also introduced to a birding app that has been amazing a someone new to the activity.
If you’re staying in Cali, definitely take this tour! As I’ve traveled quite a bit of mountain ranges and seen my fair share of waterfalls, this was hands down the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen. You’ll get some of the history of the area along with some amazing photo opportunities. If you’re a nature lover, be prepared to witness untouched, raw, naturally beauty. I would advise hiking boots and long pants due to the vegetation and bugs. Hiking shoes are ok, however I almost stepped on a coral snake! Remember this is a heavily forested area and animals do live there! The waterfall, start of the Cali river is truly breathtaking. I suggest bringing some swimming attire so you can enjoy the water! There are plentiful butterflies around the area as well! Overall unforgettable experience.

The toughest part is the 1st 500 yrds or so when you hike up from the road/drop off site to the plateau. After that you will do good 6-7 hrs mostly flattish terrain hike through the rain forest with lots of exotic vegetation & butterflies. Even fruits trees abound. You will eventually make it to collection of houses where basic snacks can be procured & then arrive to the very chilly river. The guide will take you through an area that unfortunately just some years ago was not safe with guerrillas. We saw no left over that that sad time; instead you see ocassional motorbikes ruts on the soft packed ground road. In the river we stayed long enough to our pleasure & then took a bumpy ride on the local "chiva". We finished the day with a typical lunch in the pictures neighborhood of San Antonio. Great day to get to get lots of fresh & cool air just 20 mins away from downtown Cali.
I can highly recommend this agency and track, I had a great time. The hike is fairly easy but beautiful, the nature really stunning and we didn't meet another soul! It was very muddy (as is to be expected in the rainy season) and fairly slippery, but really great! Our guide was fun and entertaining!
